Animated GIF on topics page

What size do the preview GIFs have to be to be animated on the topics page? I made one 250x141 and it worked for a short while, but now it’s gone back to being static. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? HELP!

I use 170 pixel width, height set automatically - given it’s wider than higher, so max is 170px.
Then I convert it to webp - smaller filesize, loads better/faster, to convert from gif to webp:
