Best practices for scripters migrating their old scripts to EroScripts?

@scibbles mentioned wanting to migrate old scripts on RTS over here. Any thoughts on best practices for this migration?

I was originally thinking about a Scripter Spotlight/Portfolio/Archive category. Lets say that any scripter with >10 scripts can create their own little archive of past scripts if they want. It’ll also prevent filling up the Scripts category with a bunch of old posts.

But regardless, if we want to fully remove our dependency on RTS, it seems like it’ll be a lot of work to migrate all the old posts, images, gifs, and script files.

seems like there’s maybe about 2000 scripts in the free funscripts section of RTS lol

If RTS stays up then I don’t personally care all that much, just as long as I can point to a quick archive of my own. Admittedly, this is more of a ‘me’ problem than it likely is for others - I’m not sure who else would.take the time to move their stuff over here. Your 'Scripter Portfolio" category is a good idea though, it could be used both for migration and for categorizing things going forward

My fear is that RTS will go down one day out of the blue. I guess individual scripters probably have a backup of their own files, but it’ll still suck.

One idea I had is to write up a web scraper to go through the entire Free Funscripts section and download every post that contains an attachment.
I’ve dabbled in scraping a tiny bit before, but if anyone has any experience with this and wants to try, that would be awesome :bowing_man:

@Husky5383 I know you just made a post for all your old scripts. What are your thoughts on something like a Scripter Portfolio category for that kind of content?

The spreadshit eh?

Since it’s still early here I’ll try and upload a letter or three of my collection a day. Didn’t know I’ve done so many ‘A’ pornstars

I think there should be a new category for scripts that have already been published on RTS. Otherwise I have to check whether I already have this script or not all the time.

How does this sound?

We add a Scripter Portfolio category. Anyone migrating their old scripts over from RTS should create a new post in Scripter Portfolio with all their old scripts. Ideally, instead of linking to RTS, this post would link to a mega or upload scripts directly to eroscripts.

New scripts should be added to #scripts, and it would be up to the scripter to update their portfolio post if they want to spend the effort.

Edit: I’ve created #script-creator-portfolios. I’ve also lifted the window on editing so anyone can edit their own posts forever.

For me, the only way to link old scripts that isn’t a nightmare is to link the RTS forum. I can do that, but pulling links or loading attachments for old scripts is something I have no interest in doing…

Maybe we can incentivize someone to do this 1) as a way of contributing if scripting isn’t their forte and 2) by offering them the chance to select the a free script (or two) to be created by a scripter and posted to the forum.

This is perfect for me, thanks!

There’s another conversation around possibly scraping all the old content from RTS so that it won’t be a manual process.

It’s worth pointing out here that on the RTS forum, the label “paid” refers to the video itself, not the script. A “paid” script is one where the video is behind a paywall. A “free” script is one where the video is accessible for free (legitimately).

So you can’t use stats from that forum to inform decisions about how to separate posts about scripts given away freely versus posts about scripts being sold.

Hey, I am all for this if someone wants to put the time in. Full permissions (well blessing really) to move my scripts over (with credit preferably). As I mentioned, I am happy to sweeten the pot by offering my scripting services for someone to put this kind of work in.

@Thanny you bring up an interesting point. In my head the paid scripts section on RTS always meant paid scripts, not paid video, but I guess not everyone thinks that way?

I always thought it meant paid scripts. Seems like it’d get super confusing if it meant video but idk

It may not have always been this way on RTS. But in recent times, free/paid scripts have only referred to the script itself, not the video it’s synced to.

When I joined the RTS forums, the Launch didn’t exist. The RealTouch had recently died due to patent trolling, and finding scripts for the Vorze Cyclone was most easily done there.

I, too, was confused by the paid/free script section paradigm, but it’s absolutely as I described. The free/paid description refers to how you can access the video, and has nothing to do with the script. Before the SyncArmy stuff started, nobody charged for scripts. They just posted them to the forum.

Good to know, that’s interesting. So after scraping, someone will need to go through the paid scripts and manually change the ones that are actually free scripts.

@bumdude and @Thanny are indeed both correct - It started off as separate forums referring to how the video was obtained (free or paid) not the script.

It has since evolved to help separate/clarify which subforum new scripts belonged under (free or paid)
