Player #013. Another card revealed. The Cycle watches the play.
Congratulations, Players. 40 entries reached. New prize unlocked:
Old signals, sharpened. Blurred edges, restored. What was once grain now becomes clarity. The past rebuilt, the present refined.
You have crossed another threshold. The system hungers for more. 50 awaits.
It seems we have a different understanding of âbig buttsâ, anything less than Ash doesnât really count as such - in my book. ![]()
Anyway, a question:
I think I donât really understand, letâs say I enter 3 videos/scripts in round 1, VidA, VidB, VidC, get scores:
VidA: 2
VidB: 3.5
VidC: 4
And then 3 others in round 3, letâs say scores are 1, 2.5, 2
Whatâs the score of round 1? What for 3, what overall?
Or asked differently, what scores get dropped, what counts?
I donât wanna sound like a I-need-to-win-maniac, I participate for fun, but understanding the rules of a game one is playing doesnât hurt as well. ![]()
Too bad, I would have loved to see this video as an entry here ![]()
To your question:
So total scores, average score from all jury members, would be:
Video A = 2
Video B = 3.5
Video C = 4
Here the same:
Video A = 1
Video B = 2.5
Video C = 2
Lowest score gets dropped of each round, IF participated in both rounds. That would be:
Video A for Round 1 = avg. score of 2
Video A for Round 3 = avg. score of 1
Your total avg. score would be 3.
3.5 + 4 + 2.5 + 2 = 12
12 / 4 = 3
Example if participated ONLY in Round 1 or in Round 3.
Video A = avg. score 4
Video B = avg. score 2
4 + 2 = 6
6 / 2 = 3
Total avg. score = 3
More detailed explanation from ChatGTP.
I took 4 Jury Members for the example here. Not sure if we will be 4 or 3 Jury Member. But it doesnât matter for the scoring, if we are 4 or 3 Jury Member.
Example 1: Participated in Round 1 and Round 3
Round 1:
Entry A
- Jury A: 4
- Jury B: 3
- Jury C: 3.5
- Jury D: 4.5
Avg. score = (4 + 3 + 3.5 + 4.5) / 4 = 3.75
Entry B
- Jury A: 2
- Jury B: 2.5
- Jury C: 3
- Jury D: 2.5
Avg. score = (2 + 2.5 + 3 + 2.5) / 4 = 2.5
Entry C
- Jury A: 4.5
- Jury B: 4
- Jury C: 4
- Jury D: 4.5
Avg. score = (4.5 + 4 + 4 + 4.5) / 4 = 4.25
Lowest avg. score in Round 1 â 2.5 (Entry B) â Dropped
Round 3:
Entry D
- Jury A: 1
- Jury B: 1.5
- Jury C: 1.5
- Jury D: 1
Avg. score = (1 + 1.5 + 1.5 + 1) / 4 = 1.25
Entry E
- Jury A: 2.5
- Jury B: 3
- Jury C: 2.5
- Jury D: 2.5
Avg. score = (2.5 + 3 + 2.5 + 2.5) / 4 = 2.625
Lowest avg. score in Round 3 â 1.25 (Entry D) â Dropped
Final calculation:
(3.75 + 4.25 + 2.625) = 10.625 total
Divide by 3 entries (since 2 were dropped) â
Final average score = 3.54
Final Event Score: 3.54
Example 2: Participated only in Round 1 or 3
Entry A
- Jury A: 3
- Jury B: 3
- Jury C: 3
- Jury D: 3
Avg. score = 3.0
Entry B
- Jury A: 4
- Jury B: 4.5
- Jury C: 4
- Jury D: 4.5
Avg. score = 4.25
Entry C
- Jury A: 2.5
- Jury B: 2
- Jury C: 2
- Jury D: 2.5
Avg. score = 2.25
Since this player only joined Round 3, no scores are dropped.
Final calculation:
(3.0 + 4.25 + 2.25) = 9.5 total
Divide by 3 entries â
Final average score = 3.17
Final Event Score: 3.17
Hope this helps! If you have any more questions, please let me know ![]()
Is there a reason why itâs not just highest score counts, everything else getâs dropped?
Thanks to your explanation, I know now I could enter a second video (letâs just say I participate in both rounds) - if I find the time I will -, alright, but not a 3rd, 4th and so on because it would lower the score - the Ash-Video, and if my life depends on it, I couldnât do it any better and further entries would be OK, fun-to-play - I have my standards for releases - , but wouldnât reach the quality of that one.
To me it would feel more intviting to post more entries if it would be just highest counts, besides that, you wouldnât need a wall of math to calculate. ![]()
Not that I ask for a change of things - especially not in a running event of course - it is what it is, and maybe I miss the downside of the highest-only-idea, Iâm just curious, and in the best case you may take this as feedback or a suggestion?
Is this specifically this contest, or are others also with such an average system?
Yes, let me explain ![]()
Why we use an average score system
It rewards consistency.
Itâs not about one lucky hit â itâs about how well you perform overall. Every entry matters.
It values effort.
If you put time and care into multiple entries, your score reflects that.
Quick, spammed entries donât help unless theyâre genuinely good.
It keeps things fair.
Averaging avoids âlottery winsâ and makes sure skill and creativity shine through.
Everyoneâs playing on equal ground.
It still gives freedom.
If you participate in both Rounds, your lowest score per Round gets dropped â meaning weaker attempts wonât drag you down too much.
In short:
The average system rewards skill, effort, and creativity â not luck.
Average scoring values craftsmanship. Highest scoring values chance.
The former builds a community of creators. The latter builds a lottery of entries.
Of course I am taking this feedback and the suggestion and I appreciate it very much. But I have to say, we are very confident with the scoring system. As explained above, itâs overall the fairest system of them all.
We used this system for last couple of events. I think we only had 2 events where we didnât use the average score system.
