What @Oppositeodd said. Often when someone posts a script to a studio porn scene I’ll go grab the original quality off Usenet - even if it’s been 10 years since the scene came out. I find the newer stuff a little hit or miss versus what friends report seeing via private trackers for porn though.
Another angle to consider… Usenet relies on vendors having encrypted data that you download and decrypt. Even if there’s a takedown notice, it only affects one post - where a typical file has hundreds of posts. The use of “PAR” files - which have RAID like recovery for the file posted - allow recovery of the content even if 5% of posts are taken down.
The downside is some added complexity. You need a news host - a service that holds the posts and lets you download them. There are several to choose from, and some have different datasets. Then you have an indexer subscription - DrunkenSlug that @nodnil mentioned is one - which allows you to search for specific content and download a list of posts that make up that file.
Fortunately the tools available abstract much of this. NZBGet takes an indexer’s .nzb file - which has the posts you need for a file - and downloads the content from the news host automatically. You can also use Whisparr to automate search and download steps.
