Starting today, I noticed that MEGA download pages in Firefox no longer detect or open the MEGA Desktop App. I just get the “You don’t have the MEGA Desktop App installed” message, even though the app is definitely installed and works fine from other browsers.
Here’s what I’ve confirmed so far:
- The MEGA app and
mega://protocol are correctly registered in Windows. - Typing
mega://startin the Firefox address bar opens the app instantly. - Clicking “Download with MEGA Desktop App” on MEGA’s website does nothing (no prompt, no warning).
- Edge and Chrome still launch the app normally.
- I tried downgrading Firefox (even back to 143.0.1) — same behavior.
- Running in Troubleshoot Mode and clearing MEGA site data didn’t help.
It looks like MEGA’s site no longer triggers the mega:// protocol when it detects Firefox, but I’m curious whether others are seeing the same thing — or if anyone found a workaround (ESR builds, config changes, etc.).
Is this affecting everyone on Firefox, or just certain versions?
