I’m not sure if my unit is defective but I just got my handy mount and while setting it up I noticed the screw threads are standard.
The threads are supposed to be left threaded so the arm doesn’t loosen during use. This is standard on camera equipment so I assumed this would be the case for the desk mount.
Does anyone else have the issue where the arms spin while in use?
It doesn’t matter on my end, because even with everything tightened down nothing would stop it from spinning at the pivot points above the screws. So you would still need the handy pressed against your pelvis or something else to prevent all movement.
You might actually have a defective unit.
when you tighten the bolt it applies pressure to the ball joints (if that’s what you’re talking about) to prevent them moving, that works perfectly on my end.
Well that explains a lot.
You made me curious and I went to check, my unit also has standard right threaded screws. If it’s not a coincidence, it may just be a design flaw =(
The mount spinning a bit did happen one time because it was starting to unscrew itself when I was handling it, but since it only happened once in the first week of usage and then never happened again, it’s not being an issue on my particular case.
As months went by, my unit started to display a behaviour similar to what @giveahand described, but not as drastic as he experienced it - even when tightened, it seems to slowly “sink” as the Handy moves when unsupported, as if the pivot teeths aren’t enough to completely hold it in a fixed position anymore. This didn’t happen at all when I first bought it, so I don’t discard the possibility that it may have been caused by damage over time from me doing something wrong.
Yeah my mount during use does spin quite a bit.
Maybe the dick too powerful but it’s a bit annoying.
The screws seem to screw in tight for me, but I’ll pay attention next time I use it (why won’t people just leave so I can use my gadgets in peace?). In general I think it’s not a great mount, probably decent for the price and better than nothing. Got mine for a decent discount with one of their sales. Will look into getting something more sturdy eventually like that stanley vise.
