Handy2 or FUNSR/SR6

I currently have the original Handy and am looking for a new device. I’m looking for recommendations on which device to upgrade to. Since I’ve never tried multi-axis before, is the experience actually worth the price if I’m mainly going to be watching videos without VR (more creators are putting out multi-axis scripts for their videos but does it feel better?). Another thing is I do not have a desk to mount to. I’m fine with holding it, attaching it to a stand and sitting on it, or somehow attaching it to my bed frame. Has someone managed to get a desk-free setup going for their multi-axis device?

The best metaphor someone said to me is:

The Handy (2.0 / Pro) is your Toyota Corolla: just sit & drive experience. Works everytime, is reliable, built like a tank and can take a beating even if it’s neglected in maintenance.
Any custom multi-axis stroker is your italian exotic sports car: it requires regular maintenance, a multi-step process to get it started and shut off once you’re done driving it, and don’t be surprised if it just doesn’t start one day. But when it works - it for sure is a rocket.

I own both (OSR2+ in my case) and can confirm that is exactly the case.

I honestly wouldn’t even look into buying a multi-axis device if you can’t clamp it onto a desk. At full speed it rattles even my 120kg desk. You won’t be able to hold it down with your hands since it will just tear them off. And I tried attaching it to my cinema grade Avenger C-Stand for a ‘levitation’ setup: the thing flew halfway across my room when I least expected it. But if anyone was successful on setting it up any other way than the desk - then please share

In 100% of all scenarios when I recommend a stroker - I say go get the Handy cause it just works.
And 9/10 times I go for it myself. Multi-Axis only if you’ve got a lot of spare time and are willing to set it up.

Interesting take. Would you say the multi-axis devices are mindblowing compared to the handy 2? Is it like a night and day difference per say? I do have a desk but it’s next to a public area where I’m sure everyone can hear the noise.

I would say the Handy2 if your unsure, all the multi-axis toys are a big commitment to learn and use. I’ve owned The handy 1, OSR2, SR6 and a SRPRO.

The multi-axis toys MUST be mounted and it pretty much has to be a desk with how much they kick, There also all very very loud compared to a Handy (besides the SRPRO).
You also need to learn how to take it all apart and reassemble it anytime anything breaks in it, i had to do so 4-5 times over the course of 2-3 years, Along with needing the replacement parts meaning you might need to buy and learn to use a 3d printer or pay some crazy price for a stick of plastic.

I would not say its terrible worth it the twist function is by far the best part and most of the reason i like and use them but then it also comes with the issue that not a lot of scripts even have multi-scripts so most of the time you just have randomish twists with a normal stroke the other axis’s are nice but not really a big deal for me.

With the hand 1 “and i’m guessing handy 2” it just works, i’m not sure about the handy 2 but i’m assuming its like the handy 1 were you just connect it and it just goes and iv had my handy 1 for over 5 years never did any maintenance at all, not even regreaseing it and its still just going fine to this day.

I would say only get the multi-axis if you can buy it without feeling bad about the price and understand it might just be something you use every once in awhile because it is a better experience but with a lot of drawbacks that might make it to cumbersome to daily drive.

When it comes to multi-axis or theHandy2 I sorta always come down to the same consensus. If you don’t have a single-axis device or are looking to replace a Handy, just grab the Handy2. But if you’re currently satisfied with your Handy(and not selling it or tossing it)(cause why buy a marginal upgrade for something you already have that isn’t broken) or if you’re looking for a new experience then look at the multi-axis devices. Its an entirely different experience going from single to multi-axis.

The OSR2 and SR6 are not handheld devices and require a mount. You can mount to a desk or you can buy a monitor arm with the vesa mount. As long as you can attach the monitor arm to a sturdy enough surface you can basically use it anywhere. People have mounted it to their beds with the arm. People have also mounted it to a laptop stand so they can use it in bed.

Anyways.

If you’re looking for more of the same but better, Handy2 will probably be fine. Its an improved single-axis device, but its still single axis.

If you want something new and different, multi-axis. Everyone keeps asking for a twist receiver for the Handy2 because they want to add another sensation to the device because there’s only so much you can do with just up/down.
