Hello everyone! After quite a while of being here an experiencing scripts my hard drive is starting to get quite full, specially with all the really nice quality and vr videos out there.
While deleting videos that i know i didn’t like is easy, it gets harder with the ones i do like, specially after i haven’t experienced them in a while. Also larger files like compilations or pmvs that while very large do have a lot of variation and content that i will enjoy even if there are parts i don’t quiet get.
What is your criteria for deleting content? Do you just delete the videos you’ve seen a lot or you just optimize and go for the larger files, or maybe discard videos with bad scripts?
Any tips would help, i would be thankful to know what you do personally.
I experience my scripts through interfaces that if I’m no longer enjoying something the delete button is right there, so I can do it mid-session.
In stash you can mark things with nut counters so you can see what you’ve nut to before.
You can also do ratings, and tagging, etc.
So it’s easy to organize based on why you like it and so forth.
All my downloads go into a triage folder that I later organize into my collection. If I don’t like it, I delete it. If I do like it, I mark it for organization and organize it later.
I watch stuff and if I don’t like it, it gets removed. It seems like 80% of what I download goes away fairly quickly, mostly because it has something in it that I don’t like versus it not having something I do, turn offs are more powerful than turn ons for me.
Often stuff that’s good but not stellar gets removed if it is large for the length of the video.
I use a laptop, so storage availability is limited on the computer itself. I have 1.25TB total capacity and I look at the $62-75/TB for a decent SSD and my brain rejects the idea of spending $250 on a 4TB NVMe(I don’t want to fill 2TB and then need to buy 4TB so soon) for porn. I use USB to connect a larger hard drive and move good stuff off that’s massive or stuff I want to keep but am willing to not watch for awhile but it’s a pain to access data on a tether for when I want to copy and watch something and getting a NAS configured to do very occasional data access isn’t cheap from either initial cost or electrical cost and I can’t use a ReadyShare router(router with USB port that can act as a NAS/SMB share because the room the Internet comes into the house is used by someone renting that room and I don’t want a hard drive of mine to be with someone who isn’t me.
Its a lot about the feel for me. The video has to get me into the mood. If its just sex, plain nothing really unique about it then it doesn’t really stand out from the billion of other scripts/vids. The scene/setup, the outfits, dirty talk etc. A lot of that makes one thing stand out from another thing.
If its just another naked blonde getting railed, well ok I have like 15 others I need to get through. What makes 1 different from the others.
The best way to go about things is like trying to clean a room/clutter, see if its something you love as opposed to like/are okay with. If its just okay, its probably fine to just toss it since you won’t miss it that bad.
Unless you want to continue to expand storage, you’re gonna have to tighten any qualifiers or judgement for what stays/goes cause you don’t have infinite storage. And unfortunately streaming funscripts isnt the answer either cause despite what some people/companies say its best to keep your own records and not depend on streaming cause you have no control over what stays/goes.
Through experiencing more and more scripts, and the variation of quality, I simply start sorting those out that are subpar or consists of a lot of patterns I don´t enjoy. Focus here is on the feeling of the scripts itself. The video can be as good as they get, if it´s not accompanied by a worthwhile script I simply start to delete them by now, because as someone else already said: There is always another video xy that consists of the same topic.
Best way to clean out is starting the videos randomized, this way you get a feel for the difference quickest, because let´s be honest: Especially with a good collections specifically the not as good ones are almost invisible, because you simply never specifically go to those.
By now I have a best of/finisherfolder, everything else is possibly on the choppingblock once I get tired of a video.
Stuff I like that comes from a source that risks going down, like stuff that the original creator or publisher no longer provides and/or I had to search re-uploads of, is what I prioritize in keeping backed up.
If I know something would be easy to find again, I don’t have any qualms in deleting it if storage is an issue.
Heresphere user, I usually filter by unrated stuff and try to rate as I go along until everything is up to date. If I don’t like something, either the script or the video, I just rate it 1 star and then when I end up needing space I just delete everything that is 1 star.
I did hit a point where I still ran out of space so again, just filtered by ratings and removed the lowest that I had until I had enough again.
I have ended up staying clear of really large sized files, more because I don’t think the minor increase in quality from like 2k to 4k for example just isn’t worth as much as having multiple videos stored instead.
I trust zero online sources to have something available to download a second time. There’s so much stuff, including really good stuff that gets ‘reup, does anyone still have this?’ posts and I don’t trust that any one of the streaming or file sharing platforms will remain around because when they disappear, they are gone without warning. If I want to have something in the future and don’t have room for it on my main computer, it’s getting pushed to my large external hard drive every time.
I recently implemented a personal policy that if a script hasn’t been used for a year, I delete the video for it. My reasoning is that if a script isn’t interesting enough for me to use it for more than a year, then I won’t notice it if it’s gone.
This is the reason why I tend to “hoard” videos. Unfortunately, I can’t really afford to keep buying external storage devices, so as painful as it is I do delete some videos now and then. On the other hand, I have the memory of a goldfish, so I don’t even tend to notice they’re gone unless I make a conscious effort to.
True, there are some good videos that i don’t want to delete for this reason, however when i say good it doesn’t mean that i like it, just that the quality is good and sometimes it can get me in the mood, but if i delete it i know i won’t be able to get it back easily.
Buy yourself a USB hard drive dock, then buy large-capacity 3.5" drives as needed. Treat them like removable storage, where you can archive old videos rather than worrying about deleting something you’ll want to come back to eventually.
Keep the bare drives in one of those plastic clamshell cases (for example) to keep them safe from accidental damage. You can also label them in such cases.
You’ll want to track where you’ve moved files to, which can be done manually or perhaps more automatically with some kind of tracking software (which I don’t use).
