If you’re Still Scripting Without A MMO Mouse, You’re Wasting Hours of Your Life (Setup & Mapping Guide) Spend more time beating off, not getting beat down!
I’ll get right to the chase and tell you that if your scripting has felt tediously slow and grating, it might be because of your mouse. Put simply, the type of mouse you have (and the keybindings you use) can drastically affect the time it takes you to script, whether it be a 30-second clip or a 4-hour video.
There are likely some experienced scripters who use similar setups, but so far I haven’t seen a comprehensive post about keybind layouts, the best gaming mice to use, and why this is so much faster than conventional scripting. For this guide, I am going to use OpenFunScripter (OFS) as the primary program, but this guide may work just as well in other scripting software that supports custom keybinds.
Now, let’s get into the details.
The Hardware
I use a Razer Naga V2 HyperSpeed. It’s an MMO mouse with a total of 19 buttons, and connects with a wireless USB dongle. The Naga regularly goes for around $60 on Amazon, but there are a bunch of cheaper options out there that do basically the same thing, such as the Redragon M908 or the UtechSmart Venus Pro.
The main feature you are looking for here is a side grid with at least 12 buttons.

Mouse Setup
(Setup may vary depending on personal preference)
Here’s how I map out the Naga to keep my hands from constantly jumping from keyboard to mouse:
- Side Grid (Buttons 1–10): Mapped to numbers 1 through 10 and works exactly like your keyboard number row (or numpad) for stroke height/depth.
- Side Grid (Button 12): Since my mouse grid goes 1–12 instead of having a
0key, I map0to button12(Could’ve put it in a better position but meh). - Top Left Button: Mapped to
Deleteso I can clear points without reaching across the keyboard. - Scroll Wheel Tilt (Left/Right): Mapped to
Ctrl + Sto quickly save my progress without reaching across the keyboard. - Middle Mouse Click: Mapped to timeline dragging
Keyboard Setup (WASD Layout)
While your right hand handles basic stroke height/depth, saving your script, and deleting points, your left hand sits on the keyboard handling timeline navigation, and precise stroke height/depth/position using WASD, Q, E, and Shift.
(Once again, setup may vary depending on personal preference)

(In OpenFunScripter click Options, then Keys to get to the Keybind menu)
Why This Cuts Your Scripting Time in Half
If you watch someone script using a basic office mouse, you’ll see a consistent cycle of wasted motion: left hand tapping the number row, right hand dragging a cursor (or clicking the arrow keys) to manually place points, left (or right ) hand hitting delete to remove points, right hand reaching back to drag the timeline, etc. Every time your eyes leave the screen, or your hand moves between mouse and keyboard, you lose momentum (and precious time).
By splitting the workload between a MMO mouse and a WASD layout, your hands never leave their positions:
- Your Right Hand (Mouse): Controls point placement with your thumb, timeline dragging with middle-click, saving with middle left/right taps, and point removal with your index finger
- Your Left Hand (Keyboard): Controls frame-by-frame navigation, jumping between points, and fine tuning point height/depth/position.
Basically, Instead of spending time searching and clicking around to place a single point, you can run through an entire script with your left and right hand without ever needing to look down, or move them from their positions. Once you build the muscle memory, you can comfortably script without breaking focus and it cuts down the time it takes significantly.
TL;DR
If you want to stop wasting your life scripting slow as hell, I recommend you get a cheap MMO mouse, use these settings, and start living fast.
