On/off Switch OSR2+

I failed to get all the details before I left Discord - working on shrinking my social media footprint, and as helpful as the TempestMAX discord was, I just can’t be on an app like that without it becoming a serious time suck. It’s a me problem.

In any case, I am trying to find an appropriate power switch. Nothing in the searchable instructions indicates a voltage/amperage or size - micro, mini, micro-mini - and not all SPST switches are the same… What is the spec folks are using? Between DigiKey and Mouser, my eyes are crossing…

(And a new base which has a space for a power switch…YHC base is good but no spot for a switch and I cracked the unit while trimming to MacGuyver a switch in place - but that’s a whole other thing.)

Also, while I’m at it… Anyone running battery power supply?

Just about any switch you find will be electrically sufficient, so you need to look for the physical shape and size. I’ve used these in the past, with separate LED’s, and currently use these, which have built-in LED’s.

As for where to put the switch, that’s really up to you. I put mine on the lid near the top. I stopped using the smaller but taller switches after adding tilt to my OSR2, as it would turn the switches off in motion. The bigger but flatter switches don’t have that problem, and I still have them on the lid. I use two power sources, which is why I have two switches.

You’ll need to be mindful of clearance and space for wires when choosing where to put the switch(es). I use a heavily customized base that’s longer and taller than the normal one, and a taller fan lid which leaves more room for switch contacts and wires. Even so, the switches I use currently have their contacts bent sideways to make them fit. I don’t use the top of the base because I have two power jacks up there, and use the corner faces for wire input from the outside servos (tilt and twist).

All that’s assuming you have a 3D printer and aren’t just trying to modify a pre-built.

Here’s a few snapshots from my Blender models showing how I do it:

Thanks!
I don’t have a printer, nor the time/bandwidth/brainpower to start from scratch learning modeling software - I run a business and am building a house, this shit’s supposed to be stress relief…

I do have a couple of the round ones from an LED lighting project i did in the kitchen… but the body is pretty fat for mounting on top - on my current working unit, I had to trim and epoxy the split I caused when trimming…

I hadn’t thought there would be enough space for the switch and it’s connectors, mounted in the fan lid - and wasn’t too keen on bending the blades… But it’s an idea, if I don’t like the look of a mini toggle mounted on top. Thanks for the link and the idea!
