Servo Roundup Test #1 - Sound (unloaded)

should work fine. you’ll likely have to invert the servos in the firmware, the Flash Hobbies and Hitech servos are inverted vs. the generic china servos. It’s just an easy checkbox in most firmwares. I recommend Krulls.

Thank you, I’ll figure out an appropriate power supply and give it a try as the parts start coming in

Hi, I’d recently upgraded two of my servos to Flash Hobby recomended here.
I was experiencing strange issue, the OSR2 will run normally for few second and will suddenly stop and not responding. It happens every time I reconnect it. May I know what is the main cause? Power supply using is 6V 2.5A. Have pitcher and twist( total will be 4 servos). Not sure is it due to power supply issue.

Also another question, may I know which servo is more quite for these two? Flash Hobby M45CHW vs 9imod Coreless? Can accept other brand with similar quiteness. Was finding cheaper alternative other than flash hobby, planning to upgrade the rest of my servos. Help is much appreciated here.

Sounds like power supply can’t provide enough current and is going into overcurrent shutdown.

Flash Hobby was quieter in my testing.

I recently got 6 9imod servos for my SR6 after burning out some of my previous servos by accident. Interestingly one of the is inverted, so I had to change the movement in the Firmware for the SR6.

I also noticed, that these get significantly warmer compared to the dsservo I had before, so cooling is something serious to consider.
But they do seem to draw slightly less power.

Is it a must to build a power bus for my OSR2 or I can just directly use a power supply with higher current? Will there be any chance for my Romeo burn if I supply like 6V or 7V 5A on it?

Ah, you’re using a Romeo. Can’t help you there. From what I understand, the power output of the Romeo is very limited. I build my units with ESP32s and a power bus so the servos can pull power directly from the power supply.

@g90ak I’m considering getting an SR6/OSR2 as an upgrade over the handy, and my main concern is the noise.
Do you mind sharing your opinion on the sound of the servos and operation overall on your suggested sr6, compared to the noise of the handy? I would like to know how much louder an sr6 with the M45CHW servos would be compared to the handy, and if there are workarounds or suggestions you have regarding this.
For reference, I already run most scripts on the handy at a speed limit of 160 and an additional jerk reduction script that I wrote, to help with noise reduction.

waaaaay louder. If sound is a concern, the SR6 is NOT for you. OSR2+ may be passable, but in my opinion is still louder than a Handy. However, many of my customers say that my OSR2+s are quieter than their old Handys, so IDK.
