The handy 2 is an exciting experience, and even though I don’t have mine yet, I have the handy 1.
I have used DeoVR before and had a subscription from a long time ago. I stopped the subscription back then due to financial issues but recently things have been better.
My earlier thread about the SLR scam was admittedly pretty hasty and I shouldn’t have assumed SLR meant to make that mistake. But as you will see my bias will begin to show.
I stopped using DeoVR in favour of stash and MFP. With the three months of free SLR I was excited to get my hands on some experiences I missed out on since my previous subscription.
I re-installed DeoVR and because of my prior experience it was fairly quick. I connected my handy, did a test and got it going.
The BAD
Problem 1: The Player
The player has garbage performance. Only works well with the site.
Using content from the site it seems to work pretty well in fact but once you grab your high resolution MP4s from your local collection it gives you and artifacty mess. I have a very beefy GPU with the right hardware acceleration for the codecs im streaming so that shouldn’t be an issue. In fact I use these same videos on a multitude of other players. I even tried the heresphere demo to test performance and only DeoVR struggled with it.
The player as well has no search or any better ways to organise your library. (stash may have spoiled me here). But from using the heresphere demo, I might buy heresphere because it looks good.
Problem 2: Offline use
I’m no stranger to seeing doubleVR crash out online and have a number bad takes. But since my previous subscription, it seems like SLR has been completely enshittified. My previous subscription I was able to download the video from the browser and organise the videos into my filesystem. I even bought scripts that I then downloaded and put into my filesystem. But it seems I’m completely unable to download anything. This could be because the “free 3 months” is just an extended trial but they already limit you to 30 downloads per 6 days supposedly if you actually pay for a subscription. There’s no telling if these videos would be locked into the player in some proprietary format or not, I wouldn’t be able to tell. I may buy a subscription for a month and test that out then update this review.
Problem 3: Content
There is a lot of great content on here with a lot of my favourite porn talent. But when it comes to scripts there is a very high likelihood the script is made by AI. I will admit, the AI isn’t complete dogshit, but I am often taken out of the immersion when a full 3 seconds of action is just missing. realcumber scripts are great, I just wish I could download them.
I really like PMVs as well and it seems like all the PMV content on the site is just badly mashed scenes with generic elevator music in the background. I get that music licensing costs money but I promise that would make these actually usable. Like reach out to PMV editors and pay them to make PMV content that doesn’t suck.
The Good
Now that we got that out of the way I wanted to highlight the good.
Site playback
As I said earlier, DeoVR plays really well when streaming from the site. Never any hiccups, I never have to adjust the time delay and it’s a very smooth experience. switching from video to video is actually really nice. It’s much like faptap, but you don’t hit missing content all the time.
scrubbing the timeline is also very smooth. Anywhere I click, it immediately picks up and syncs to the handy and keeps going. (there’s a very tiny delay when doing a loop, but I think this is a player issue, not a site issue)
When playing in the browser it’s the same and the 2D conversion playback is great, makes it really easy to use regardless of whether you’re in VR or not.
I haven’t had the chance, but I want to try out SLR in heresphere and see how well that works if it works at all.
Variety
I feel like this is obvious, that it will never beat the community in this but you have to appreciate that it fills a gap that the community can’t fill. Real model talent. Some of my favourite talent like Lena Paul, Vina Sky, kinzie Reeves, etc. There is real talent here that have plenty of videos.
Passthrough
Although this requires a bit of setup it’s surprisingly worth it.
I originally though this was a gimmick, and dismissed it when it was becoming a thing some time ago. But this has gotten really good since and honestly when you line up the experience with reality it really can trick your brain into thinking you’re really getting head from your favourite talent. I promise it may seem gimmicky but it really does work when you get it lined up.
Some Notes
- I would like to have a similar experience in the browser as I have in DeoVR, loops are great for certain moments I really enjoy
- I would like to sort performers by certain features like (not the video, the models):
- trans
- thick
- tattoos
- mixed race
- recently debuted (not newly added)
- small tits
- etc
Conclusion
SLR is good if you’re looking for “Netflix for porn with scripts”
Don’t use it for your own library. It should be a compliment to your own library.
I do think that $45 is a steep cost for that, and should be a luxury
I personally will either not get a subscription at all, or I might get one on and off every few months.
