The real solution is an open source script generator as good if not better than SLR’s scriptAI which is where FunGen seems to be heading. Now if only TheHandy would simplify script uploads so they aren’t so failure prone but they just love looking at your data. I’d be happy to point my Oculus at a local IP address for this on my home network, but noooo…

It’s not just about the originals being gone. It’s about them now capping 8k h265 to sub 30mbit (20 has been seen apparently, same stuff is going on for av1) and saying it’s good quality or GTFO.
The thing is that now video quality is rapidly improving (especially with the upcoming 16k black magic camera) this limit will hit video quality HARD. We will no longer have a fallback or a way to prove our point.
Secondly, h265 doesn’t support resolutions above 8k@60fps. So this whole thing seems like a strategy to make you pay 7 a video in the future so you can generously buy the 12k/16k content that is comming without technically violating the terms of downloads (bad faith practices).
The real solution would be a 50ish good high quality download but they don’t want to do that because money and walled garden practices.
So even though you might not care right now about the originals you really got to see it in the larger scope of what they’re trying to do.

Keep in mind the bitrate of h.264, h.265, and AV1 are not equivalent. h.264@50Mbps is Blu-Ray quality level, give or take. But you can encode at lower bitrates and get good quality with the newer codecs.
SLR is down to 20mbit/s scenes now for the maximum h265 encoding. Whatever you say that is just not enough.
I mean, the compression artifacts couldn’t be clearer on this Pink me! 20mbit/s file. Just look at the background and see the crappy gradients. They are removing originals and giving us crap quality so they can try and upsell us / remove downloads effectively. It’s not about original getting cut I would have no problem with that if they uploaded a high bitrate 50-75mbit/s file like AR Porn does. In fact I’d much prefer that.
just compare this to ar porn that uses 75mbit/s almost 4! times higher (Tender Triangle)

The h.265 encoded 8K video is 9.5GB in size and you say it is 20Mbps.
The AV1 video is 5.6GB in size and 12.1Mbps, which is pretty unfortunate. If they kept it at 20Mbps it would be a lot more reasonable.

They removed the 2d scene previews as well, forcing you to rely on crappy trailers and 4 cherry picked photos. I’m very upset because I can no longer purchase scenes with confidence. I’m calling it quits with SLR unless this is undone. I have always gone to bat for them, but I can’t defend or understand decisions like this. I purchased all my videos individually, so they can pound sand as I download them all for offline use moving forward.
Just does not make sense to renew subscription any more, not even cheap at black friday. Changing the conditions within a contract the second time after reducing script downloads from 10 to 3 is extremely shady. Thats it, good bye and good luck.
