The (official) Handy desk mount experience

Does anyone know how the ball swivels on both ends are tightened? I have this desk mount arm but as you can see the ball swivel at the top is tightened with a screw. It is very loose and doesn’t stay in place like I want it. Does the official handy desk mount have similar tighteners for the ball swivel? Thanks!

The arm they use is known as a magic arm; there is a single knob which tightens all movement points. They are super handy tools!. I’m surprised your ball head is having issues seeing as they have images of it holding a camera and lens which are heavier than The Handy- hopefully you can return it if it’s not working for you.

So i’ve had the handy desk mount for about a week now, and i have to say its great. Can handle all content i’ve tried so far without a problem, long fast strokes, big vibrations etc etc Its very solid and sturdy either on a desk or how i use it hahah

So personally I like laying down on my bed with a VR headset connected while high on weed edibles to get off. So instead of a desk, i’ve combined it with my old handsfree setup ( Stanley multi angle vice ) by connecting the two with a small piece of wood.

Then the stanley vice is clamped onto an unused skateboard deck i had laying around.

Slide your legs ontop of the deck, one each side and strap in, angle the handy to your liking and slip into a comfortable bliss :eyes:  :eggplant: :sweat_drops:

Nice setup, and glad to know that it’s a sturdy mount :smirk:
Thanks for sharing.

Mine broke already. The ball joint came lose while using it and a metal cylinder fell out. Any idea how to fix this?

I’m not sure how easy they are to fix. I would recommend either contacting them as they’ll probably send you a replacement arm, or buying a new magic arm off Amazon. How was everything oriented when it broke?

If this matters, it would actualy indicate a design flaw. As that means you could apply pressure to an area you shouldnt to get it to detach. A good system would restrict movement beyond a certain point, and make clear when you are reaching it:
Often some sort of ring would be used to limit its movement, the ring can on that still be a little flexible, but people arent likely to push it beyond it.
In most cases you would still just use steel as its the easiest method to make sure movement is limited. This ring changes the point to which excessive force is applied (instead of the bearing, its now the ring itself that takes the load), so on that can make it sturdier. Usualy it does restrict movement a lot though and is often not as desired.

But maybe they will find an even better solution, as in the end, as long as the force being applied is less than what the materials can handle, it shouldnt break anyway (except over time by fatigue).

Well, it does for other people who will be buying and would like to avoid theirs breaking. It’s useful information for the community which is why I asked. Magic arms are not made to hold up vigorously moving objects- they can, and many of us have been using them without issues; however, a white label one without a weight rating breaking isn’t a surprise to me. I was hoping though we could get some insight into how you had yours setup to avoid problems for others.

Just got this recently and will say it is pretty awesome to not have to hold it.
Side note i already cant last for shit using the handy and have noticed my staying power is even worse hands free :upside_down_face:

I already did, but I haven’t heard from them yet besides from the standard ‘we will contact you asap’. The position was in the same position as I used it before. Basically like in the pic above. I hope I can get a new one asap lol.

same lmao - this is why I made the whole script-cadence-halving features in funscript.io in the first place :joy:
so many great scripts that I can’t get through more than 5 minutes of haha

Note that my comment was more ment as being informative, rather than denying its needed (although after reading it back didnt sound like that).

Ofcourse design flaws should be fixed if they are there.

They are sending a new one. Really good customer support!

hey guys, any weight range of sleeves i can use with the handy and with the desk mount? do not want to break it haha

The max recommended weight for sleeves is 500g; however, I try to find sleeves under that in the sub 300g range. Lighter will obviously move easier and be less prone to strokes being shortened or missed. The heaviest sleeve I use regularly is about 275g- I personally won’t try going heavier than this for now.

Not sure if you’ve come across this thread, but there are some great options here:

I use it with my Fleshight Go strapped into it and have no problem.

My GProject Marshmallow-wan weighs about 425 gram. Moves in sync without noticeable slowdown.

thank you so much! will keep that in mind and check out the thread. does the same go for when using the desk mount? or should i chose something lighter

I haven’t had issues using my desk mount setup which uses similar parts. I think in terms of guaranteeing the best performance and device longevity, lighter is better, but anything under 500g should be fine with the desk mount.
