Objective: Obtain 4k quality for hentai that have already been scripted.

With hentaibar down and with the knowledge that a lot of hentai sources are limited online, i am working on keeping more of the hentai videos i want stored locally. I have found a few alternatives that work

hstream.moe is underrated since it offers upto 4k streaming options and AND 1080p mkv downloads. The key point here is the mkv files which have the subtitle as metadata rather than being burned into (hardcoded)

4k downloads are locked behind a premium subscription but the download manager i use cannot extract the SRT from the webpage (some videos on hentai.tv have SRTs which my download manager can identify)

It took me a while to figure how to do it (i learnt about multiplexing) and i am still not sure if this the best way but it is very painless once i got everything set up.
Requirements:
- Download manager - I use IDM since i bought a lifetime subscription a while ago but i have used JDownloader and it seems to work just as well
- MKVToolNix - This is nice since it has a simple to understand GUI which works well for me. Download the portable version (this guide assumes you are using windows 10 x64) since everything is in a single folder and you need muck about figuring anything out.
- https://hstream.moe/ - The site has to still offer 4k streaming options and free 1080p downloads (and obviously has to be working at the time of attempting these steps)
Process overview: Extract the metadata for chapters and subtitles from the 1080p mkv file and copy it to the 4k file.
Steps:
- Use the download manager to download the the 4k version of the video
Use the site’s download button to obtain the 1080p version (after completing the captcha) - this wont work if you are not able to obtain the mkv file for the same video- Just verify if the 1080p-mkv and 4k-mp4 have the same duration
- unzip mkvtoolnix.zip and launch mkvtoolnix-gui.exe
- Add both the 1080p and 4k files to the Input (A)
- Keep only the required streams, i choose to use the audio and video from 4k and only the metadata from mkv (B) - the streams are color coded for easy of understanding (in the example, green is 4k and blue is the 1080-mkv)
Optional - Trim the video before getting the final output
If you have a script that you know is for a video without any intro, you can trim the output video accordingly (Output Tab → Splitting → After specific timestamps → e.g. 00:00:10 to split the output into 2 files, the first 10 seconds and the rest of the video)
- Click Start Multiplexing and you are done. You now have a 4k-mkv with subtitles and chapter information
To my knowledge, this is the only way to get 4k videos with english subtitles for free. I am open to hear if anyone has found a better site.

Not right now, i am still not sure if this is the best approach and more importantly sharing the videos alone will be of no benefit without a matching script. I am here to just share what i learnt and possibly help scripters with obtaining 4k versions whenever they decide to script something new

I am also uncomfortable sharing any modified scripts without getting explicit permission from the original creators (even if i add that information in funscript metadata) and getting so many permissions seems like an unnecessary hassle when i am still unclear on the value proposition to other members here
"Will the videos match the funscripts?"
- 9/10 times it wont match the source mentioned by the script author since each site has either no intro or different length intros (hanime.tv always has a 6 sec/144 frame intro)
"Whats next?"
I have been going through my collection and trying to edit funscripts to match the new videos (time consuming process since it all done manually), if i can figure out a way to automate this based on frame detection using python, i will maybe make a part 2 how to get the funscripts to sync)
