Can you use the handy with no internet connection?

I am just curious if there is a way to use the handy with no active Internet connection? I work on a lot of cruise ships which have Internet behind a login page which means I cannot connect using Wi-Fi as the handy does not offer a username and password login option.

I am using a MacBook Pro or an iPad Pro. I would appreciate any help on how I could use the handy and our beloved fun scripts whilst away at sea.

I used to use the launch which connected nicely to syncy dink however I can’t seem to connect the handy via Bluetooth like I could the launch on syncydink!

I look forward to anyone’s guidance. Thank you

2 things.

  1. Yes, but you wouldn’t have the funscript functionality in respects to the API, for offline use you can use bluetooth and intiface (the guys behind buttplug.io)

  2. You can purchase a travel router to bypass captive networks like that.
Bypass Captive Portals & Device Limits with GL.iNet Routers - GL.iNet

You may have to look into some guides online but I have done this, I don’t mind assisting if you need.

You might be able to get away with setting your computer/phone to a mobile hotspot and/or wifi tethering setting. follow that up by reconfiguring the handy’s wifi to that of said hotspot option. then you turn on that option on when you wan to use the handy (kinda like you would bluetooth).

not sure if that would possible or how that would work cause i haven’t tested personally but the handy might not be able to differentiate between a normal router and a wifi tether so it should work in theory.

Hold up. did some more quick searching. the answer is yes.

Wifi hotspot for mac; Share the internet connection on Mac with other network users - Apple Support

Wifi hotspot for IpadPro; Share your internet connection from iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) with Personal Hotspot - Apple Support

I imagine if your device connects to the internet. then handy should be able to connect to the handy servers through said device. cant say anything about reliability of the connection though so good luck.
