Connecting Multifunplayer with... well, anything but whirligig?

So… i have an OSR2+.

It works fine, i installed the multifunplayer, got it connected… everything is working as intended.

One issue… i cant get any player run as i want to. I installed MPV, it opens up, but i cant drag any file in the MPV window, it just doesnt work. The “drag cursor” is blocked. If i open MPV just like that without multifunplayer, it works fine but like that it has no connection to MFP… so yeah… not helping

cant connect VLC, MPC or any other player except whirligig… though… this player is not inteded to play 2D videos. I hate VLC, but i just tried it to get SOMETHING running, didnt worked, it just tries to connect all the time in a loop.

my prefered option would be to use MPV or MPC-HC for the 2D videos, iam fine with whirligig for 3D…

But the errors are just gibberish to me, and the solution i found via google for those error even more so. I mean… what is this witchcraft? Cant be so hard to connect it to other players if whirligig works just fine?

And why cant i drop files into MPV if it opens up via multifunplayer? Doesnt make any sense?

Error for MPC:

System.Threading.Tasks.TaskCanceledException: The request was canceled due to the configured HttpClient.Timeout of 0,5 seconds elapsing.
—> System.TimeoutException: A task was canceled.

Sorry… what? Where the fuck do i even go from here? Google didnt helped me… its just… sorry iam no software engineer. Not in the slightest, iam a user and gamer, and thats it.

There are only a few people that reported this issue and I don’t know what causes it.
It might be the location of your MFP/mpv folder. Maybe try running MFP as admin.
If you want to run mpv manually then create mpv.conf file next to mpv.exe with this content:

input-ipc-server=multifunplayer-mpv
keep-open
pause

After starting using mpv.exe MFP will be able to connect.

Did you enable View -> Options -> Web interface -> Listen on port in MPC-HC?

VLC has a bit convoluted setup, here is a wiki with steps (tho it seems down atm):

Thanks for the reply, iam running MFP as admin, dont know why the location of either MFP or MPV can create that issue, i dont want to change it though…

regarding MPC, yeah i did that and the port is the same in MFP and MPC.

I use portplayer now. Its working fine and does all the things needed to watch without issues any 2D content… for 3D i wanted to use whirligig either way, and it works too…

So… issue is not solved, but you can say i worked around it and found my solution i guess.

I dont know, maybe its some permissions issue, I never was able to reproduce this no drag-drop issue.

Try clicking “launch in web browser” in MPC, it should open a web gui. If it doesnt open then maybe you blocked it in firewall.
Also what version of MPC-HC are you using, the newer versions are made by clsid2: Releases · clsid2/mpc-hc · GitHub

i always use k-lite download for the MPC-HC. Its kinda included in the codec pack there. Actual version is 2.4.1.16 last update was 2 weeks ago… so yeah should be up do tade.

I guessed too that it might be firewall or windows defender issue, and it looks like it is. Well, windows defender that is. Disabled the windows defender and MFP was connecting to MPC just fine, enabled it, not anymore… so, that is the issue, at least for MPC (who the fuck knows why… windows defender and pretty much every antivirus proggy is a endless rabbithole of issues, but living without it, is kinda the same endless rabbithole :D). Well, iam not living without antivirus on my PC, especially visiting pornsites without it is a no-no. So it stays. Portplayer works fine with MFP and i dont see the point to fumble around with windows defender or replacing it with a diferent antivir just to get MPC running with MFP when portplayer does the same without issues…

MPV is not needed anymore either. So… thats it, solved for me, it will stay like it is, Portplayer for 2D content, whirligig for 3D, iam happy with it.

But, really, thank you for looking into things and the help. Much appreciated.

If you disable windows defender it probably disables windows firewall. If you open the “Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security” you can just remove the rules for MPC-HC which are probably set to deny traffic. Its also possible you blocked MFP too. You probably got the windows firewall popup when using MFP or MPC-HC and didnt allow the connection so it got blocked.
