Deciding Which VR headset to upgrade to

So i’m trying to find out which VR headset to upgrade to now that the quest 3 has come out. I’m currently using a HTC vive ( i know , i know), so i’m sure any newer headset would be game changing.

I just wanted to see how the way i access all my scripts/slr would change with a different headset. Right now i connect through steamvr, open up DeoVR, and can have access to all my local video scripts on my PC and use slr through Deovr. etc, with any extra local funscripts using SLR videos.

Since the quest 3/2 are standalone, how would you end up accessing local videos/scripts on my PC. What about the local funscripts in the interactive folder? I’d assume the HTC VIVE pro2 would function the same way that im currently used to, but I think i want to move away from the annoying to mount base stations.

On the topic of which VR headset to get, I’m just wondering what the pros/cons for like the quest3/quest2 are versus some of the more expensive ones. Is the video quality comparably different compared to like the vive pro or i’ve seen people mention the pico 4 on here. I’d like the quest 2/3 to be a easy transition, but i wanted to get some research on how much of a headache its going to be if i went that route.

Cant really speak to the comparison as ive never used vive or pico headsets. The quest 3 is excellent really good quality screen and much more responsive than the quest 2.

If your wanting to continue using the new Quest 3 in the same manor as your old headset you can download Virtual desktop streamer and it allows you to connect to steamvr on your desktop but over wifi instead of through a cable.

I have owned the Quest 2, Quest Pro, Pico 4, and Quest 3. Honestly, the Quest 3 is the better choice. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty damn good for the price. The Quest 3 is better in basically every way from the Quest 2. So, if price isn’t the issue, the 3 is what you want. Quest 2 is still very usable in my opinion, though. The Pico 4 is also a decent headset, but it is not sold through normal channels in the USA. It’s not hard to get one, just make sure you get the Global version like they sell in Europe and not the Asian market one. Pico 4 is a very capable device for VR porn, and, with the DeoVR app on the Pico Store, it functions the same as Quest in that regard. The Pico’s lenses are decent, but they are not nearly as good as what you will find in the Quest 3 and Quest Pro. It does have great resolution, but colors seem a bit washed out to me, and it lacks some in clarity and, most importantly, the size of the sweet-spot is noticeably smaller. Because of this, before the Quest 3 was released, I still enjoyed the Quest Pro more even with its much lower resolution. Quest Pro is a rip-off especially now that Quest 3 is out. It’s just never been worth the price, in my opinion. If I were to choose from all of these headsets again, I would go with Quest 3 for sure. That said, I am very curious to see what the Pico 5 might bring. They definitely seem capable to push the hardware at a decent price. But, we still don’t even have a release date for any new Pico headsets. Anyway, that’s my two-cents. Hope it’s helpful!

Appreciate the responses. I guess it’s looking like the quest 3 is pretty universally just one of the best options right now.

I guess I’ll just have to deal with the growing pains and getting all my content working smoothly. But I imagine it’ll be worth it when upgraded from an og htc vive lol

I also have the original HTC Vive and im down to upgrade any time soon. I’ve seen some reviews of the quest 3 and it seems that its the best consumer headset out there right now.

I wonder, in terms of video quality and pixel density, the content will look like as you know, you see every single pixel on the vive  .

I also used to own the Samsung Odyssey Plus. The Odyssey Plus has a slightly higher resolution display than the Vive as well as a Samsung invention they called Anti-ScreenDoorEffect screen. My experience was, though it did essentially eliminate the screen door effect, it added a slight fuzziness to the image. Moving from the Odyssey Plus to the Quest 2 was definitely a clearer image, but the screen door effect added a graininess. Honestly, I can’t really decide which I like better. If I absolutely had to choose, I’d probably go with whichever display was brighter with better colors. All that said, going to the Quest 3 from either headset is going to be a pretty big improvement for you. Obviously, it all depends on the quality of the content you’re viewing, but the same content on each display is going to look best on Quest 3. Again, it’s not perfect. The question is whether or not the price is worth it to you. Just to clarify, I am happy with my Quest 3, but it was not the massive jump from the Quest 2 or Quest Pro I was expecting. Yes, it is an improvement. I’m wondering now if it isn’t just the limitations on video quality that’s out there at this point that needs to improve to keep up with this new hardware.

I like options that minimize the ability for a third party to get my data or to break my stuff.

The history of DeoVR makes it a bad choice for this case.

The history of Meta makes the Quest a bad choice too, but that can be addressed.

With a Quest 2/3, HereSphere and a computer with XBVR you can get a reliable setup with some effort.

HereSphere can be installed directly to the headset as an apk.

XBVR can manage your collection and serve it to HereSphere over the network.

HereSphere can interface directly with a few interactive devices.

If you set up a separate home network for the Quest you can prevent it from phoning home or fetching updates that break it.

Yeah i would definitely have to look into the XBVR/Heresphere route. It was nice having all of those things in 1 app conveniently all together, but as long as you can get XBVR to push everything to Heresphere it should be fine.
Then obviously using DeoVr to access any SLR content.
Hopefully there’s enough posts that would help me connect both
