DLsite added back VISA/mastercard but is now region locking content?

TLDR: Use a JP IP (VPN) to buy products that are region locked
https://www.vpngate.net/en/ is a free option which I know very little about but seems to work and didn’t require any downloads just setup through Windows network settings. They do keep a log for 2 weeks I think so don’t go crazy with it.

Context
More of an awareness/observation so not sure where to put it on the forum

I noticed some items getting the error page in DLsite

Thought it might be some issue with the site/publishers or an older product but it kept happening over several days with newer products and some common ones here in the forum.

Using a JP IP (VPN) allowed it show up and suddenly the links worked now

Region Locked Content

Example:
SFW: https://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ01342767.html
NSFW: https://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ01188963.html

Found at least two genres affected by this region lock:
Tag name in JP つるぺた
Tag name in EN: Petite
Link: https://www.dlsite.com/maniax/fsr/=/genre/207/from/work.genre

Tag name in JP:ざぁ~こ♡
Tag name in EN: MSGK
Link: https://www.dlsite.com/maniax/fsr/=/genre/525/from/work.genre

If viewed with a JP IP it shows content, without it it looks like a broken link (might have to do a hard refresh on the browser due to cache)

Payment Methods
There’s also been a change to the payment methods available based on the IP address

No JP IP

JP IP

I guess they brought back the international card payment option but had to restrict access to products as part of the deal.

Is there any information from DLsite on this?

Seems to apply to NSFW and SFW items (see updated example). Likely just based on the tag

It’s genuinely wild how a few companies can make websites censor themselves as much as we’ve seen over the past decade.

Credit card companies and Roskomnadzor have severely worsened my casual internet usage recently. I would love it if my nation’s laws and the content owners were exclusively dictating what I can and cannot access. Now my private life is being hamstrung by the moral pandering and corruption of credit card companies and Russia?

It’s a relief that technologies such as VPNs can help us bypass this sort of censoring, but it’s a travesty that it’s becoming necessary. And I worry that things will continue to get less and less accessible going forward, even with VPNs.

F95zone thread, for those who want to doomscroll and seethe:

This stuff should be up to justice systems, not a few people without realistic consequences to their demands. I can’t change this by voting them out or boycotting them. They’re not subject to the will of the people and nations they choose to fuck over.

There have been some large voices complaining about it, but I don’t see a path to fixing this.

thanks for the info

edit
wow looking at the thread it’s basically how I ran into it as well, no official announcement or anything just users that stumbled into it when trying to view products

I also cringe at the moral agrandization of payment processors that think “Ew Sex” is going to put them out of business. We’re all grown adults. Stop treating the world like it needs to be squeaky clean of any and all “taboo” things. OnlyFans was nearly santized as a result and payment processers cough VISA cough denied any culpability but as soon as they denied it allowed onlyfans to start collecting payments again and they went back on it.

Trying to exist is an uphill battle of trying to get people in power to mind their damn business.
