Handy2 Pro Not Charging

@golnziwe — yes, warranty extends by the time you were without a working unit. Sorry that wasn’t communicated.

@El_burrito — fair point. Two distinct issues: (1) a solder defect on the charging IC where vias in the pads cause pins to fail weeks/months later — <~3% of units (working on getting the excact nrs), fixed in the latest batches; (2) input voltage — our system needs ≥5.1V, and many chargers (Apple, computer USB) fall back to 5V. A 9V+ USB-C PD charger fixes it; our recommended 20V charger isn’t affected. Both corrected on new stock. Replacements come from a mixed pool for now, but the share of fixed units rises as new production lands, and warranty (with extension) covers any that fail again.

Edit:

  • Warranty restarts from the replacement unit (need to verify)

Normally - in the U.S. at least - a replacement product has a 90 day warranty or the remainder of the original warranty - whichever is longer.

It should be new to 12 months, but I need to verify that with the logistics people.

Support got back to me after a few more days and sent me a replacement. It took awhile but this one is charging properly so far.

Another update: The replacement worked for 2 weeks and stopped charging just like the first one.

They acknowledged the balls up: https://www.reddit.com/r/theHandy/comments/1tgnqsx/the_handy_2_issues_engineering_update_and/

My replacement is charging still but I have been very careful with the connector. It would be useful if we could identify if our units are from the defect batches.
