Heatmaps Rollout and Heatmap Styling Poll

We are adding auto-generated Heatmaps
As we have drastically different opinions on what should be the default I’m making a poll to get people’s opinions
Come vote to Heatmaps Rollout and Heatmap Styling Poll

Rollout

  1. Scripts will be available in #free-scripts
  2. Per-user or per-theme script view settings
  3. Generating images for paid scripts (author drops in the script and obtains locally-generated png)

If the topic has multi-axis script, how would you like to download it?
  • Handy - I only have Handy so I’d like to get script optimized for Handy
  • Single-axis - I don’t mind increasing script filesize a bit as long as it works
  • Single-axis - I’d hate increasing script filesize
  • Multi-axis - single-file multi-axis (works in MFP, easy to implement for other players)
  • Multi-axis - single-file multi-axis with .max.funscript extension - possibly matched with .max.mp4 video
  • Multi-axis - download many files with one click
  • Multi-axis - download one by one, as is

What other built-in features would you use if they were implemented? (some of them are basically impossible but I’m interested to ask)
  • Metadata Linker - add tags/author/topic_url metadata into scripts
  • Handy Converter - optimize scripts for Handy when downloading
  • Speed Limiter - limit script max speed when downloading
  • TCode Video Player - play funscripts on OSR directly on the site
  • Handy Video Player - play funscripts on Handy directly on the site
  • VR Video Player - play VR videos directly on the site
  • I Hoarded button - like :heart: but for when you’ve just downloaded the script with the video
  • I Came button - like :heart: but for when you’ve actually used a script, maybe usable multiple times

Addendum:

What other built-in features would you use if they were implemented? (some of them are basically impossible but I’m interested to ask)
  • Link favicons (see above)
  • Topic links overview (see above)
  • Site-owned Pixeldrain account (with unlimited dl speed for Patreons)
  • enforce script attachments in Scripts > Free Scripts
  • Topic Signatures to sync your Patreon plugs across all the posts

The heatmap coloring will be like this:

You may play with its parameters at Heat Parameters Playground
If you’ve found some better params you are welcome to share them
If you have better designs for heatmap share them as well

I honestly do not like that style of heatmaps at all. Imo Heresphere does it best (and also shows way more details) in a way like funscript.io does so e.g. like that:

HeatMapAverage262

(Heatmap from DSVR-1608)

Adding the additional information like which axis it’s suppose to be for, actions, length and speeds would be my preference. Everything else I’ve seen in here so far is less of what I like which could be because of the script itself, but checking that other test topic it doesn’t seem to change with e.g. real life script.

That’s just my opinion and preference though.

tbh it looks exactly like the thing you describing for me

Should I consider blurring line speeds more so they match average heat? Currently I render momentary speed
You may check how it’d look like in Bright - Funscript heatmap generator (it’s a bit dated but roughly same) (it has dark mode if you need it)

I think the heatmaps look fine as is.
I think the Solid option is best. It’s easy to parse and has no redundant information.
I’m surprised to see the inline win the vote considering the amount of crying script creators were making in their post formatting.

Honestly I think a combination of the append and hover are the best option.

I have came to conclusion that Marathon and Solid are exactly 50/50 (I’ve seen the side change like 3 times) so we should make it a setting

As a consumer I don’t care what weird styles script creators want
I want standardization - a preview on top, heatmap-link and video link in the middle, and a couple of some self-promotion banners in the bottom (but not too much)
I can read a hundred topics a day and the last thing I want to see is everyone having different structure

Maybe even some standardized link stylings
… Is there a plugin to add favicons before links?
… didn’t find one

Up to absurd it would be sticky buttons for script / pixeldrain / patreon
Actually lemme see how’d that look like

Favicons look too good, I need this, I need this, we are adding this next week

Don’t go this route, please. Standardization kills personalisation. It’s good every thread has a different style, because every creator wants to present their work in a different way. That is very important. If you enforce creators to do everything in a certain way, I can guarantee you, people will get mad - rightfully so. Let people have their freedom of choice on how they present their work.

I agree with this to an extent, i do think post have to have required components like a heatmap, preview, etc, but as long as the post have these required components let them be creative with how a poster arranges them

UX should be standardized, Design should be personalized
I remember one post that got flagged twice because it had script attachment hidden in plain text (so it looked like it has no script link)
I did encounter broken links in so having them in topic-independent signature would be cool
As long as the default action set (script, video, patreon) doesn’t cause confusion - go as wild as you like

This.

My only concern at this point is that if any kind of script player is implemented on the site is that it would increase the traffic in some way.

I honestly don’t know enough about the subject on how these things are handled by the server… So my concern could be invalid.

Metadata linking would be amazing… But it would take me a long time to update my entire library of downloaded scripts.

I agree on having the necessary things in a thread being a requirement. But the rest, don’t force standardization.

@here added a new poll

Most of the stuff I try to implement has to be agreed on mostly everyone to be good enough for me to proceed implementing it.
And I try to standardize what’s already everyone does or unsaid rules to actual recommendation guidelines and written rules
So I (likely incorrectly) assume that others mostly agree to me (and that’s why I like polling this much - to see the actual results and gaslight myself that was always my opinion lol)
tldr feel free to bump me into my incorrectness I like it

We have a rule that allows putting your funscripts anywhere accessible without registration
There are basically 3-4 scripters who published 30-50 (~1%) Scripts > Free Scripts scripts use this rule so if it’s removed they’ll just get back to Scripts > Paid Scripts where they have majority of their scripts anyways
(there are 6% more topics that have scripts in pixeldrain/mega, 5% of them by bumdude so I can leave choice on this rule to him lol)

It’s just hotlinked Pixeldrain, what else could you expect lol
It’d actually just make me hoard stuff less by being able to just play what I want
If this could make site more popular is another question

I have the whole load of attached Scripts > Free Scripts so after we get this done just send me your collection and I’ll update it (may merge multi-axis as well if you use that)

Making polls for stuff like this is definitely appreciated. Always good to involve the community in the decision making. It also seems like there is much more stuff possible for the forum than I thought - feature-wise I mean.

On the new poll:

I voted for a proper signature system. Been wanting this since I am here. I am wondering why there is no standard signature system, like every other forum back in the days had.

Other things:

  • A review section
  • I’d like an event team role, maybe with the possibility to be able to allow us to global pin our announcements threads, if your mod and admin team would be okay with that. I also saw there groups, so maybe an event group as well. Not sure if the groups have any benefits though.
  • Proper way to embed videos (video links) here. I always have to make a work around for that, that breaks shortly after. I embed the trailers for the events, but they always break.

You may use keywords “discourse <feature>” to search web is there is a plugin for that thing

Afaik pixeldrain embeds from paid pixeldrain account (prepaid $1/month, yep) should hotlink fine
(free account vids get hotlinks blocked after a while)

Somehow I always assumed you are sorta moderator /shrug (but well I’m relatively new here)
@VladTheImplier give him trust 4?

Leaders are regulars who have been around forever and seen everything

feels like the majority of people who actually care about overpersonalizing their threads are in paid scripts, so maybe make said overpersonalization a feature for site patreon subs? It is purely cosmetic after all.

This is not going to happen.
I’ve mentioned this enough. Eroscripts is a Forum. Not a database.
Script creators get to decide how they want to format their posts. That’s it.
You can and should consider this forum more like a bazaar than a walmart.

I said we are testing it to see if it works we didn’t confirm anything at this point.

First, thanks for your work on the automatic heatmap; they look nice and has the information that I usually include in my release (number of actions, average speed, etc).

As a quick note, I would prefer the Solid also.

Something that might be a good addition is to add the chapters, if any are included in the funscript.

For example, in this file:
PPVR-020-A - Mei Satsuki [zalunda].funscript (285.2 KB)

I included chapters (using OFS 3.0 feature):

	"metadata": {
		"chapters": [
			{
				"endTime": "00:09:43.066",
				"name": "Talking",
				"startTime": "00:00:00.000"
			},
			{
				"endTime": "00:10:45.741",
				"name": "HandJob",
				"startTime": "00:09:43.066"
			},
                        ...

Something like that:

I placed them outside the L0 because, in multiscript, it would be the same for all the files.

Anyway, food for thought.

Thanks for reminder, will be added, maybe after initial rollout, but for sure
I see 5% (1373 / 27k) of free funscripts use it so it’s a common feature
I see half of them have named chapters
Any thoughts on styling?
Actually yk what I gonna use average L0 speed color
