I’ve been using my laptop and recently my phone to download use and view videos with my kiroo keon. However I’ve run out storage and have been deleting and downloading new videos and scripts. I’m curious how you all store your scripts and videos.
I have a complex setup.
I use a SAN with ceph and a bunch of devices.
I also have a 16TB drive that I put some stuff on.
I access everything over SMB and xbvr/stash.
Literally just finished upgrading the storage in my PC (again)
I know what a SAN is as I’ve learned that physical media is a dying medium, but do you mind explaining what you mean by SMB and xbvr/stash.
I use Synology NASes to store nearly 250TB of video and scripts. I have 24 x 16TB drives. I use the free VR scene library management application xbvr to organize my collection. xbvr runs as a container on my NAS.
xbvr scrapes the public web pages of many VR porn sites and stores them as scenes. Then you match the video and script files to the scene.
With HereSphere on my Quest 3 I can access xbvr over the network. I can browse a gallery-style view of my scenes and with 1 click the video plays and the script is uploaded to my Handy over wifi.
SMB = server message block = CIFS = Windows file sharing. With this you can browse a list of filenames and play videos that way on your VR headset.
stash = stash is another porn video library management tool. It is more focused on 2D content. There are plugins to give it funscript and VR support.
SMB is a local network communication protocol most people know it as CIFS or Samba.
Usually used to setup network filesystems/printers/serial protocols like COM.
xbvr/stash are software that you can self-host like a private pornhub.
EDIT: emphasis on LOCAL for smb, do not expose smb publically this is how eternalblue happened.
I was going to ask if you would recommend something like this for me to do, but I assume its a big investment to get into.
Depends on your technical apptitude and if you have the hardware.
It’s not difficult but doing it “the right way” does take some time and effort, especially if you’re going to maintain it. but the quick and dirty way is easier.
Well, maybe sometime in the future. Right now I’m just looking into expanding the storage on my laptop, will still cost me some money, but nowhere near as much if I decide to set up my own network and nas system.
