While updating the List of Free VR Scripts sheet I got to thinking that it might be useful to create a similar sheet for the paid VR scripts. I calculated that as of today there’s about 1300-1400 paid scripts on here (based on the amount of topics with the VR tag in the Paid Scripts category) so it would be quite the undertaking. I already have some ideas on some Python scripts to write to help automate some stuff but it will still be a lot of manual effort. I don’t know if anyone is really asking for this but I thought it could be a valuable resource for the community.
So I wanted to gauge the interest of the community, I’ll create a simple yes or no poll. I would also love to hear if you have any specific reasons for your choice. Or if you have suggestions or anything else you have to say.
Sheet preview using the first several paid scripts posted on here, I am open to suggestions on how to improve the sheet:
Hm I think that would have to involve accessing the site they’re selling the script through, which might be way too deep for this. It would also have to be dynamic to reflect changing ratings. The idea was to just link to the eroscripts thread, like the Free VR Scripts sheet does.
It’s a good idea, it’s quite easy to find what’s on SLR (which might be a good chunk of those 1k+ scripts), but now there are plenty of Gumroads and it’s hard to not miss something.
Yeah that’s basically the idea, a list independent of any single website since there’s a few different places to sell scripts and most of those sites don’t have good ways to browse scripts unless you’re looking for something specific.
I was messing around with some things trying to find something that would help me catch up with all the scripts that have already been posted so I wrote a script that helps get the links onto a spreadsheet. Using html data I was able to automate a few of the fields reducing a lot of manual input. Here’s preview of what the sheet would look like using the layout of the Free scripts sheet. The preview is of the first ~10 paid scripts posted on the website. Open to suggestions on modifying/adding/removing fields.
That can be done, thoughts on including if there are free links or not? I’m kind of a datasheet nerd so I don’t want to complicate things for no reason lol.
I don’t think a lot of paid scripts topics have free links in them, and a lot of paid scripters use the no-free-links tag, so I’m not sure how useful it would be. Also the free links might expire, so it could be complicated to have that up to date in the spreadsheet.
Personally I don’t use free links anyway so maybe someone else might be more interested by having it listed.
I like the idea of the script host site being on the sheet but I don’t think including the price is necessary, there’s generally not a large price range and I don’t think someone looking for a script will be swayed if the price is $3 or $5. Here’s an updated preview image with the new field.
Boredom and a need to procrastinate doing actual work made me get really started with this and next thing I realized I was about 400-500 lines in. So looks like this will be coming soon, likely sometime next week, possibly this weekend.
