Keeping Videos - A Poll

Hello, my fellow Eroscript users!

A bit of background first:

Recently, I suffered the loss of my trusty external drive, on which I kept the vast majority of the videos for my script collection. So many treasures lost! I kept video backups for the scripts I really liked or keep using, but the vast majority of my script collection no longer have videos for them. So now I have to rebuild my video collection all over again.

Anyway, what I want to know is: how many of you keep the videos for your script collections? Do you save videos, or do you delete them?

  • Yes, I keep all the videos I’ve downloaded for my scripts.
  • Yes, but only the ones for the scripts I really like/consider important/keep using.
  • No, I delete the videos after I’ve used a script.

I personally keep as many videos as I possibly can, even for the scripts I’ve downloaded but never used. I realize this eats up a lot of my storage, but I’ve been something of a data hoarder anyway.

Feel free to discuss on the replies below!

I voted ‘only the ones I like’ because I generally add all new downloads to a folder to be tested before saving them to my BIG external drive for storage. I usually visually screen scripts and download only a handful out of the bunch that get posted on any given day, and then physically test those before deciding which ones to keep.

I have another smaller external drive that I keep copies of scripts I really love. That is my ‘working drive’ for actual use. If it dies, I can get another small drive and copy the good ones back over from the big storage drive. If my big drive ever breaks, I’ll only lose scripts that I liked, but never really use much, and I can just replace it and copy from the working drive.

If they both break, well…

I keep all the videos with the scripts I like.

I have a double back-up of all videos and scripts. Everything is stored on my PC hard drive. My backup is an external hard drive, where I copy all the new content over once in a while.

If you are a data hoarder, you should may consider getting in NAS. It can hold a lot of storage, depending on the system, and could server as a media server and a backup at the same time.

For the smaller external drive, do you also include copies of the videos, or just the scripts themselves?

I wish I could, but an NAS is just too far out of my budget’s reach at the moment. Best I can do is a couple of external drives, one of which I just lost

I am a big user of handbrake, and typically convert things down to 720p. It is rare that I keep anything at 1080p or above. Porn just doesn’t need to have the insane fidelity that a Hollywood movie might. This lets me store a much larger library than otherwise might be possible. They still look good with the new compressions that are available. Of course I’m not using VR.

The costs also keep me away from getting a NAS. Even though, if you think about it, on the long it might have the same price. Always buying smaller external drives will also add up in prices. Buying a NAS once, with enough storage, has a high initial cost. A NAS also adds a lot of comfort. Just using it as a media server makes things pretty easy.

I wouldn’t bother keeping an external drive solely for funscripts as they’re small enough that they could just stay on my PC. I keep copies of videos as well as scripts on the drive so scriptplayer will automatically load the script when I choose a video.

This. In some cases I even HAVE to downsize with handbrake because my pc doesn’t handle 4k very well. And tbh, I can’t tell much of a difference in quality above 720p anyway.

Its a good idea to have stuff saved/stored in case the online links/servers go down but theres no need to keep everything. Its why I don’t default to streaming services and prefer having hard copies cause if something happens its at least something I can deal with rather than having streaming services that just delete content or lose the perms/licenses.

Because there’s so much content out there porn/funscript wise, I would usually advise people keep the scripts and videos of the stuff they really like since its nigh impossible to consume EVERYTHING and the library on this website is forever growing and storage isn’t infinite/free.

I used to be a hoarder and download and keep a bunch of vids but once I realized I only really watch most stuff once, I started deleting the stuff I liked rather than loved. There are only 24 hours in a day and its video content so unless youre weird and are playing the scripts/videos back at 2x speed you can’t possibly get through everything in storage.

I remember at least 2 HDDs died without forewarning, the other were gentle enough to wave the white flag a while before crossing the Styx.
Missing a really good solution for comfortable back-ups, sometimes just money or laziness led to the loss of data.
Most of that wasn’t a problem, but some data loss hurt badly, not talking only 'bout porn only but photos and such.

Downsizing videos is no solution for me, the pure mass, would need a serverfarm for that, but wouldn’t want to lose quality as well.
You never know if one day you’ll regret downsizing, maybe you’ll get a 4k, 8k monitor, maybe a VR-Headset where you clearly see if it’s 720p or 1080p.

My solution now are refurbished internal HDDs, got 3x 10TB + adapters, SATA to USB + active USB hub + acryl rack for the HDDs, all together ~ 450,- for 30 TB, enough space to not worry about space anytime soon again.
Like this:
hddrack

Plant not included!!! :frowning:

Will add another 3 of those HDDs over the year so will end in triple safety - backup + backup of the backup, should compensate the risk because of the refurbished HDDs.
Hub and power strip with switches, switched on only when needed, software is now robocopy for data and macrium for system, macrium can still be found as working free, legal version.

Not a cheap, but the cheapest solution I could think of, works great so far.

To the poll:
After watching first time I consider keep or kick, I guess 2/3 from what I download get’s kicked, that’s for the video, no matter if it has a good script or not or a script at all.
