Opinion: IVE tags

For those who are unaware, the project IVE Turns eroscripts into a script/media database and makes it more or less streamable. I’ve been following it for a while and wanted to get the opinion of users/creators

I am wanting to push creators to use the ive tag to indicate that a given post is compatible with IVE. The idea is to give users an easy way to use IVE on the forum without having to search through posts that don’t include the script in the post.

Posting free scripts outside the forum is still going to be allowed, but the ive tag will require that the script is posted in the forum.

Rules around the new tag:

  1. The media link must be direct
  2. The script must be in the post
  3. When clicking “Load and Play” you are brought to the media page, and the script successfully plays (ie. test before adding the tag)

If all these are met, then you can add the ive tag

Creators opinion (members of the scripters group only)

Seems like a really cool program, I can see it getting used a lot for sure. I personally like having all my media stored locally so I probably won’t use it though. I do worry about the potential stress it could cause on the site infrastructure though. If adopted in mass, will it cause extensive load on the server?

Lol, didnt even remember there was a scripters tag. Applied so I can vote later.

Program seems pretty cool and it wouldn’t hurt afaik to have the tag. Since we’re not actually hosting anything other than the script and having a posted link to a video source.

The only real concern is less of a concern and more of a ‘this’ll become a pain in the ass later’ when it comes to IVE compliant posts losing the direct link to a source video(through takedowns and the like). Cause we have no guarantee that video links stay up, and usually people just respond to a reupload request with a quick pixeldrain, gofile or mega upload. So it would be up to the OP/mods to do post upkeep, whether it be finding new streaming links or taking off the tag.

Personally, I’m still an old man and just download everything that catches my eye. But I can’t come up with any actual pressing reasons as to why we shouldn’t have the tag.

That should hopefully encourage more users to report for archival in that case.

It shouldn’t cause any additional stress. All the code running is client-side

I use IVE all the time, its a great tool. I have like 8TB of stuff from over the years. and it has got to the point where its just not worth it. I’ve been tempted to delete everything I didnt pay for but the data hoarder archiver in me doesn’t want to

At the end of the day its all porn and IVE is a good middle ground for keeping track of what you watch and very convenient lol

Personally as a user i like to have everything locally stored and now that i have it organized on my own way on stash I’ll probably continue to do so, but it’s super cool to have a tool with direct interactivity with the forum like that for the more casual users that can’t or don’t want to download everything every time and just have a kind of “plug and play” experience with it, I’m all up for incentivizing creators to start tagging with that improvement in mind and i will do so myself.

With that in mind, @VladTheImplier I’ve got 2 adjacent questions to this, firstly this application of the tag will be one more tag slot permanently occupying on of the 15 tags in all the posts, I’ve got already quite a few posts that the 15 we have as is were not enough for proper tagging, wouldn’t it be possible to increase the amount of tags we can use? Or why have a limit to begin with? is it a discourse limitation?

If i now go and add the tag to all my previous compatible free posts, firstly is there a way that i can add the tag by batch editing all the posts? or do i have to do each manually? And if that’s the case can i do so normally or will it spam the main page with the edits?

Script Collections quote=“OverTheEdge, post:7, topic:301215, username:OTE_Scripts”]

The limit exists to dissuade users tag-spamming for SEO.
We can increase the limit to 20.

I don’t believe so currently, thankfully users with trust lvl 3 can help update these posts as well.
We can investigate a way to enable users to bulk edit their own posts, my worry is about making big mistakes like making posts that are paid move to the free category even by accident. It’s happened before just with individual posts, I fear the issue would be exacerbated.

Updating tags won’t bump the posts. That only happens for wikis like Script Collections

Sorry to be a bit ignorant on this but what does this mean / imply in specific? because as a user, in terms of functionality, if we ended up being able to tag like in for example sankaku or any booru image board, it would be better experience in terms of searchability in general.

A shame we can’t batch edit but that’s fine, once i finish my current script i’ll take a bit of time to edit all my posts at least :victory_hand:

Thank you for the info!

A person making a post they want to show up in search results regardless of what is being searched might just put a bunch of irrelevant tags to show up.

Placing a limit on a post makes it so this approach isn’t effective. I have no problem increasing the limit as long as there is one.

Oooooh I see, makes sense. 20 tags should be fine for the most part, it only becomes a bit more problematic for lengthy posts / videos with multiple scenes but yeah one can always prioritize what’s more important inside that limit.

Thanks a lot for increasing the limit :people_hugging:
