That’s a good idea. I’ll get it on my list of stuff to do. I definitely don’t want to just have a single video of the flash hobby servos without a comparison against the standard ones. An audio clip without a comparison point is very very subjective. Problem is, no one wants standard ones anymore so I’ll have to build one just for the video
Thanks a bunch, will be eagerly awaiting your video! A comparison video would definitely be a great idea. Currently there are old videos of OSR2 on Youtube and it sure is loud. I couldn’t find anyone that post videos of OSR2 with better servos.
I do find your post on the servos comparison poll interesting and informative but it was not part of a fully built system where multiple servos are running.
Agree that it isn’t indicative of a fully built system. However, there are a lot of other factors that affect the sound of a fully built system:
- Sleeve weight - servos can be varying degrees of louder based on the sleeve a user chooses.
- Mounting location - even though I use foam tape on the desk mount, the unit will still transmit vibration to the mounting surface. Some desks will deaden that transmitted sound, while others may actually amplify it.
- Stroke length - an OSR2+ at full stroke will be louder than one with a limited one. Since everyone’s wangs are different, most people will not utilize the full 0-100 distance.
- Sleeve tightness - much like weight, the amount of friction between the user and the sleeve will affect the sound of the servos.
- Stroke speed - depending on the user’s speed limit settings AND the script speed, servos can be louder.
For those reasons I really focused on the most “pure” and controllable test between the servos - which was to test the servos in isolation and mounted into identical mounts. Yes, this could also be accomplished by testing 2 identically built units, but would still not be indicative of how it may sound once it is in use by an individual.
I do see where you are coming from and understand that many factors could affect the sound of the fully built system. I was just wondering “hmm wouldn’t it be good if people could hear how it sounds like while it’s working?” as there were a lot of praise on how the M45CHW servos are quieter.
I think something with not too much frill such as the one in https://discuss.eroscripts.com/t/review-silent-sr6-from-aliexpress-how-quiet-can-it-be/149037?u=stillhorizon could also provide people with some sort of idea on roughly how it sounds like.
do take a look however if you think its worthwhile to do a comparison video, this is definitely not a high priority item.
Boy, those gifs…
Makes me wanna buy a new OSR2+ from you every time you announce a new drop
Just a reminder cuz of the odd date - DROP #1.0 of 2025 will be in 5 hours from this post at Midnight Eastern!
In almost exactly 24 hours, DROP #1.5 will launch at midnight Eastern (1/15)! See you all there!
Cant wait to get my new desk and join in a future drop! Right now my desk shifts around too much when using handsfree mounts (comes off the wall and monitors get rattly) so I’ve had to go back to handheld… but as soon as I can do a handsfree again… better believe I’ll be getting one of these!
