I finally decided to upgrade to Quest 3 for the appeal of passthrough videos. What is the optimal setup people are using right now? Is it Heresphere on the Quest and XBVR to share the files? I have a beefy PC but if the Quest is enough to comfortably play 8K videos I don’t see a reason to wire myself up with a cable. I also use a Handy.
Sorry if this question is asked a lot. I tried searching on here for answers but it is mostly dated.
No need to connect it to your PC, your gains will be minimal, besides the PC (Steam) version of Heresphere doesn’t support Passthrough (or it was the last time I checked).
I also have a good PC and I don’t think it’s worth it. The Quest 3 with its native version of Heresphere can play everything right now (If you increase the sharpness slider too much it might stutter a bit if you’re sensitive though). I just use the PC to host the files through XBVR.
No need but thank you. I’m subbed to all the major sites I use. Very rarely I need to sail the high seas for a scene these days.
In case one forgets to do this, there’s an option to force it while watching the video, I don’t remember its name, but it also lets you modify the opacity multiplier of the passthrough (which I usually crank to 4.0 to remove edge flickering -and it also helps in some cases in which the performers look like ghosts )
Hi, just a note that the pc version of heresphere does support passthrough videos. I can’t comment on if it’s better or worse than the quest version though.
That’s nice, when did they add that support? I’ll see if I can check it out one of these days.
Anyway, I feel like the PT in the Quest version is more than enough. I mean, if the improvements of using the Steam version with a powerful GPU are mostly confined to slightly cleaning the image, maybe reducing a bit of macro blocking and noise (somewhat more noticeable in scenes shot in exteriors or with low light); most of those are not a factor in a PT video where you just need to have a clear image on the performer and not really on the surroundings.
