Thank you!
This fan was installed:
Does the voltage matter?
Thanks. This is the same fan I received with the unit. Looks like they havenāt changed the batch when building yours.
Itās 5V.
My fan is actually rated 24v, so it may be running at a lower RPM than specified.
@renwoxing Mind confirming these info?
For now Iāll keep using the fan (still would be good to have a recommendation for a different fan by @renwoxing, though), but while reinstalling it, I noticed that one thread was stripped.
Thankfully the fan itself is still sitting firmly, however it would but great to have the STL files available somewhere, as the plastic threads probably wonāt last long.
Fan really necessary? Counters the silence of the device which is the superpower of it no? Someone hold a heat measuring gun there and running some fast scripts or set a weight that keeps it in acceptable temperatures. Whats the price of a 10cm motor and what can it lift?
No itās not necessary for light usage. If you are not going to push the limit of these motor you may be able to just disconnect the fan and leave it.
I have complained about the same thing with them when I initially got the device. The reality is that you can fit a fan of the same dimension that does not make audible noise but still helps with circulation. So the problem isnāt about having a fan but which fan to use.
Really hope @Tempest will make one with this new motor but please a small fanless version also, even if small means expensive.
I
Iām going to be taking a look at robot joint motors this year. My goal for 2026, now that SSR1 and SSR2 are a reality is SSR6. I have some ideas but I havenāt settled on an architecture yet. The motors used on FunSR PRO make economic sense because theyāre the best value for money but theyāre way too big and powerful for a six axis device. The smaller motors are more expensive and I doubt anybody wants to spend $1,000 just on motors.
From the testing Iāve done having even just a gentle cooling fan makes a massive difference. Motors naturally create heat and having airflow makes it much easier to get rid of it, which prevents the machine overheating. So for a homebuild device I will always include a fan option from now on. There are quiet fans though.
A little bit of airflow makes a huge difference; I second everything youāve said and want to add: The motor driver/power electronics are usually the more sensitive components when comparing the thermal masses behind them especially compared with bigger motors.
Looking forward to see what you cook up this year.
Thank you for your detailed test. It seems that this is an enhanced version of the OSR2+.
I changed the start up behaviour but I wanted to set it back so the default is the starting point again, is there a way to reset this setting?
Do whatever command you did to change that, but use DSP2 instead for middle.
What do you think after a few more months? Is it holding up?
My Handy is starting to give and Iām looking for a new device but with the Handy 2 Pro + accessories costing the same as the FunSR PRO, itās either getting another Handy now that itās half price or finally jumping to this.
My Handy lasted 3 years, I donāt need this to last quite as long but thereās definitely a lot of issues on the discord which Iām not sure if they get resolved as probably they get moved to DMs, but I definitely donāt want a device that Iāll be using and worrying about it falling apart while in use (already had a stressful period with the Handy until I got the right mountā¦)
Iāve had this device for a few months also. Sturdiness isānt really an Issue with the FunSR pro is pretty big and built like a tank.
Honestly I donāt see anyone having issue with broken parts unless theyāre too rough with it while moving it around/setting it up.
I did have a small issue where i slightly stripped a one of the screws that connects the receiver to one of the arms but luckily i got around that issue by just using an allen key that was juuuuust a little bit bigger. The holes where you have to screw things in feel almost too tight but when theyre in there they really dont feel like theyāll come out even when the machine is going crazy so it aināt exactly a bad thing.
