Separation of notifications and account/profile (reguarding navigating to blacklist or other preferences)

The reason I created this topic was a discussion brought up in the following topic;

^If you can’t see it, your blacklist works for you.

User Edale pointed out it is a 3 step process (more like 4) to get to any profile settings because you have to go through notifications and find it at the very bottom. This can make it harder for new users to adjust their preferences (adding or removing blacklisted tags/users being the most sought after.)

Currently the process to get to the blacklist is a follows;
-Click profile icon.
-Click profile at the bottom (indicated by a generic anon icon rather than your profile picture).
-Click Preferences.
-Click Tracking.

What I propose;
-Place a notification (bell) icon in the top right between the chat feature and the profile icon.
-Make clicking the profile icon bring up the profile menu.
*and if not already implemented, have “commonly undesired” tags be added by default for all new users.

Other Possibilities;
-On the fly theme adjustment for page color or text no matter where you are on the site. (accessible from a dropdown on the profile menu, or make it the new sidebar)
*adjusts small things like text size/color, and page color.

And if this is a repeat topic then I apologize.

Almost forgot I could quote directly…

In case you didn’t know, the current sidebar on the left has quick options for changing theme (brush icon with the name of your current theme) and spacing (slider icon to the left of the + icon) on the very bottom of the page.

I have made the following tags automatically muted unless someone unmutes them:
loli animated-bestiality rape

Will update the rules to let others know.

Personally I disagree with this change I think people should behave like grown ups and do this themselves but this is a common enough ask that I will forgo my opinion.

Also to answer the separation topic, as far as I know, not possible without significant development to the core application. You should request that on the discourse github.

How many people are actually bothered by ALL of these tags AND too incompetent to just filter them themselves?

You probably get annoyed by these complaints more than anyone else, but I’m not sure this is the right solution.
How long until people start requesting even more filters for things they personally dislike (like shota, futa, gay, furry etc.)?

I also suspect most users won’t even realize that some tags are now auto-muted (I mean realistically, how often do people re-read the rules and notice changes like that?).
They’ll just wonder why they’re missing topics, or scripters will question why their work is suddenly getting less exposure.

Even if they do notice, it means everyone else now has to manually re-adjust their filters again based on their preferences.

As you said, grown-ass adults should be able to just mute tags themselves based on their own tastes.
If following 3 simple steps is too much to ask, maybe a more accessible quick-link or easy-access to the tracking page (perhaps near or inside the profile icon) would be a reasonable middle ground.

I would say the tags to be opt-in should be based on which ones have historically regularly caused friction within the community.

At the same time, exposure and discovery is a very valid concern.
It would be neat if users were explicitly prompted by the UI to confirm their interest in these tags upon first visit after a tag has been deemed to be controversial enough to warrant an opt-in status.
