Hi
I am considering which headset to buy because my current one (a Pimax vision X 8k) is begining to “limp”. I have never tried AR and am vondering if I should prioritize one with good AR capabilities. So I am vondering is AR a gamechanger or a little “Meh”??
Also my current headset have a FOV of almost 200 degrees. And it seems that none of the newer headsets can match that. If anyone has experieces “downgrading” their FOV I would like to hear if it is something that I should worry about.
When I moved from a Reverb G2 to a Quest 3, I thought AR sounded kinda yuck but then after trying it I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I wouldn’t call it a gamechanger for myself necessarily. I could live without it. But when I’m in the mood it can be pretty cool to live that fantasy of having a series of gorgeous pornstars riding me in my own house. Sometimes I’ll just chill and watch tv while a girl rides me.
The passthrough feature is convenient too because I can’t see my PC screen without glasses, but I can via passthrough. So if I need to make an adjustment to MultiFunPlayer and want to see what I’m doing, I don’t have to completely remove the headset and put on my glasses.
I can’t speak to 200 degree FOV or downgrading FOV. Hopefully others can.
Image clarity and FOV are my 2 biggest concerns when buying a headset.
I’ve had almost every headset from the start (HTC, Valve, Win MR, Oculus, Apple, Meta, even including the original Oculus DK1 from way back), and honestly, the Quest 3 (and NOT the Quest 3S) is currently the best overall device the market has to offer right now. The performance you get for the price is ridiculous and the AR capability is pretty good.
That all said, their are other options, but they all come with their own minor issues that keep them from being a go-to device. Lastly, the valve Frame is coming out very soon, so if you haven’t decided yet, I’d wait just a little longer to see if that device topples the Q3 crown.
The Apple Vision is better in image quality and AR. But… it is HEAVY, and that’s not even including the external battery.
The difference in quality simply didn’t justify the price in my opinion.
You won’t care if you drop you Q3, or stuff it in a backpack. On the other hand, you tend to be Extremely careful with the Vision. I sold mine since it was beginning to collect dust, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a try before buying a Quest. It is truly impressive… for short uses.
