Some updates

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I did some updates to the site’s features and did some extended in-forum work.
Today I have been busy with some rare free time I got.

Reactions

I have enabled and configured the reactions plugin. You’ll notice the like button now has reactions.
Feel free to recommend adding emotes to the reactions

leaderboard

Because of some conversation in Free scripting dead?
I spent a bit of time working on the leaderboard feature. This is now visible in the sidebar.

bugfix

Some of you probably noticed a bug with the ad at the top of the page where the display order is broken and shows multiple ads at the same time.
This is fixed now.

discourse update

An update that was run a bit ago has resolved a couple issues with the forum.
One in particular regarding tag synonyms. which couldn’t be searched.
This is fixed so we will be starting to deduplicate tags that mean the same thing.
for ex. paizuri/boobjob/titfuck are all interchangeable under searches now.

MFA is now enforced

This comes as no surprise and though has been fairly controversial it seems to have been met with a mostly positive feedback.
Unfortunately it was mostly in my DMs. It seems many people are afraid of the vocal anti-mfa crowd.
Thank you for the kind words everyone who knows who they are.
If you need help, go to the discord dm me and I’ll reset your mfa.

site feedback

This category has grown a lot and and has made following certain issues difficult.
I have gone through and closed the threads I think could be closed whether it’s because more threads are open or we’ve settled how we actioned it or if I know the issue was fixed between the abandonment and today.
I’ve also responded to threads I think we should revisit some ideas.
This will help me and the moderators follow what threads need our attention.
If you open a thread under Help or Site Feedback, don’t forget to mark it as solved when there’s a conclusion or a solution to your problem.

Thanks for the update.

I don’t mind the MFA at all, in reality it just doesn’t bug me enough to warrant voicing a negative opinion on it. Unless we see real data showing a significant drop in site visitors I see no reason to roll it back. Unfortunately, as with most prevention strategies, users won’t see a tangible change even if it actually helped prevent exploitation. I think it’s a good change, but it won’t see a lot of positive feedback because most people will see extra work without seeing the positive effect.

W Discourse update, love seeing these QOL changes. Now if only they’d stop including inclusive tags with tag searches. i.e “non-vr” included in “vr” searches. I know you can get around it by using -tags:non-vr but it feels like it shouldn’t be a thing in the first place.

Emoji Reactions I think could be good:  :joy:

Just a reminder you can also add custom emotes:

I remember suggesting taking inspiration from Newgrounds for score reactions when it was suggested some year(s?) ago.
Numerical reactions tend to skew towards the extremes while facial expressions tied to numerical values have helped me be consistent and accurate when leaving verdicts on Newgrounds posts.

If this sounds like a good idea, I might cook up a set of custom emoji that could be used as an equivalent but optional alternative to the numbered reactions.
(Some people will still prefer pure numbers, which is why I suggest these wouldn’t be a replacement.)

I think I would prefer that actually. I would just replace the numbers entirely.

As long as people feel comfortable voicing criticism against numbers being replaced, I’m fine with that.
I’ll start working on it slowly this week.

Good stuff! I assume that the custom emotes are individual. Hence I suggest including one that is used to express gratitude. I’ve seen the folded hands, Handshake and Fistbump being used that way. What format and size would you need them in?

Also with the emotes in general. Are they counted in any way? Because we technically already have the normal like (in the form of a heart), that is natively counted.

All of them count as likes unless they’re excluded.
Right now I’ve excluded the :one: and :two:
