There appears to be a tag info feature in this Discourse version. After set by the staff it will be shown in tooltip, and in the tag banner.
Since there were a few disputes over misuse of tags, this could probably help keep things in order.
Maybe a collaborative wiki post can be used to gather some tag descriptions from the community.
