Everybody when they first receive The Handy…
Handy goes up. Handy goes down.
But does new Handy go around and around?

What I would like to see improved - even if just a little bit, is this…

quiet-i-am

I understand it’s a mechanical device so that’s easier said then done, we shall see. :crossed_fingers:t2:

So it will be screw-driven und not belt-driven (like Melody from SLR) so pretty much already confirmed that it will reliable and won’t need much maintenance at all, but will make more noise.

Ah I see, but is it not possible that the mad scientists over at the Handy research and development department may have some kind of miracle new housing case that can somehow deaden the sound it makes? It’s not so much the actual up down on the lead screw which makes most of the noise it is the ends of the lead screw has nothing there but hard plastic which can knock (could be solved with a rubber damper or seal) and also when the handy changes direction the other “rail” that it runs up and down on has a tiny gap that can cause a knock/tap as well.

Handy og has zero sound reduction it’s just a plastic housing, understandable as the function was the most important bit, but this time around I am hoping they are looking to implement/improve what I think are the 3 key things - increase Speed, reduce noise and add rotation axis/twist action.
If so these things will sell like hot cakes. If not…these things will sell like hot cakes! ha ha

And let’s tag along and suddenly there’s a planetary roller screw actuator - less noise/higher speed and very low speed?

Interesting, with your knowledge of advanced new screws available on the market and my imagination of what the perfect Handy would be, we should team up and build one.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the outcome would be something like this though…

Funny as fuck!

I was hoping for it to be a bit more quieter but doesn’t seems like that’s possible with this decision? Hope I’m wrong :crossed_fingers:

Didn’t you hear? They have developed a miracle new housing case.

I get the feeling I’ll be doing more maintenance as opposed to the less that’s theorized. I have a 3d printer that uses both methods so I’m speaking from experience here :c

Nobody knows anything at this point. All we know is the original Handy is great. The people at Handy headquarters have eyes and they have ears, they are not going to build something worse than the previous one are they? And I can’t imagine they would just add a centimeter and a half of extra stroke distance and stop with the improvements there.

Theoretically there is nothing preventing us from making a plastic screw - we don’t need accuracy to fractions of a mm.
If eccentrically cycloidal gears are used additionally friction and noise can be reduced.
Knowledge of math, steady hands, lots of time and an accurate 3D printer with some skills and the result will be.
Not 15 mm, but a 17 percent increase in stroke length!

Well I have lots of time, so one out of four ain’t bad, but…
