The Handy cant seem to keep up with the speed

The last couple of time I’ve used The Handy, it seems to be unable to keep up with the speed of the script momentarily stopping and starting during the script, which I find annoying especially in fap hero type videos.

It doesnt matter if I use scripts designed for the The handy 1 or not.

  1. What Handy firmware version are you using?
  2. Check if your Handy is overheating (red LED).
  3. Have you cleaned and greased the Handy recently?
  4. Are you using wifi or Bluetooth for your scripts and Handy?

Make sure the stroke length isn’t limited in software. I had this problem occasionally with the H1.

Use the onboarding app, or go to new.handyfeeling.com to see if there was an unintended change limiting the top or bottom of the stroke.
Use the slider to adjust as necessary.

Jumping in because I have had the same issue, since after 4.0 at least.

Always thought that maybe it’s toy losing and reconnecting to Wi-Fi and a normal thing.
It is a short jam lasting a beat (about <0,5s?) but easy to spot in beat based scripts, like playing a wrong note with an instrument.

"What Handy firmware version are you using?"

Always the newest official release

"Check if your Handy is overheating (red LED)."

No, time spend playing doesn’t change the amount of lags, nor is there warning lights.

"Have you cleaned and greased the Handy recently?"

I never greased old handy on its 5y journey, but since handy 2 is so new i dont think thats the issue. Had the same issue on both models.

"Are you using wifi or Bluetooth for your scripts and Handy?"

Wi-Fi, always had issues with Bluetooth dongles on desktop

Stroke limit is 0-100%. But the jam always happens at bottom

Try limiting the range to 10-100% to see if it goes away.

That being said, I also experienced this and I think the fault is either network related (or rather, Handy servers being slow) - or a faulty video. The latter is easy to spot if it only happens with some videos and always with the same ones.

I’ve seen videos where the frame presentation timestamps contradict the specified fps, other videos use variable frame rate. In this case, the video player’s time info runs slow or fast vs real time, so it needs to correct the timestamp every now and then vs Handy’s real time clock and this update will also throw the Handy off rhythm. I’ve tried fixing them to constant fps, but that throws audio/video sync out of the window, so I have no resolution for such problematic videos.
