What the fuck does feminism have to do with censorship?
News fucking flash: Dworkin has been roundly rejected in subsequenbt eras. That’s the thing about Humanities and scientific method - revising and criticising, finding the good points and examining them to develop better concepts.
But to just entertain that thought for a second: Scroll through the landing page on most porn tube sites and you cannot honestly say there isn’t an element of violence in a lot of mainstream porn. Or scroll through the Free Scripts on this site here… sex and violence are inexorably connected in humans, for better or worse. How, why, what we’re to do about it (oh hey, those are metaphysical, epistemological, and ethical questions about an aesthetic? OH NO, PHILOSOPHY!) is a whole other discussion that has been taking place for longer than any of us have been alive.
Let’s drop the black and white thinking - it makes people look dumb as shit.
Nuance requires thought and introspection… and “feminism” is a nuanced area; a massively large conceptual space that encompasses at least half of humanity, from a multitude of cultures and values. Takes like “Feminism bad” just makes a person look like a troglodyte, an incel who can’t get past their own failures to evolve.
What I HOPE you meant to say is that "Authoritarians working in bad faith using veneers of feminism and safety [of children] to enact censorship, has been going on a while"
Because feminists? Actual, real, live, thinking people who identify, publish, lead discussions and educational forums are not trying to censor porn, sex workers, or block people from exploring adult content. Overwhelmingly, you’ll find the modern feminist talking about how a woman choosing to engage in sex work is an example of peak feminism.
2 things: 1) What they/we ARE trying to put a stop to, is exploitation practices within an industry that has long preyed on vulnerable people for profits. (All industries, really, but that’s a different discussion…) Swinging a shame stick at people who consume pornography, is the work of those seeking to censor, not those looking to improve the conditions so more ethical practices can grow and themselves eradicate the shitty behaviors.
- Those bad-fatih people claiming it’s for child safety and protecting women? THAT’S HOW BAD FAITH WORKS. Seize on tiny slivers of fact/truth: Young people can be harmed by viewing porn at the wrong ages, the industry has a history of people abusing women, and a lot of content glorifies violent actions (not to mention animated/AI minefields, too - these don’t directly harm a person in the same way, but there’s something to be said about harm in giving certain concepts oxygen).
Bad faith operators use these grains of sand and point at them as if they’re the whole beach…Every beach in the world. They destroy nuance, to achieve their ends. And the worst part is that anyone can self-title themselves and post/publish bad faith garbage, and the other bad-faith actors will point at them as the example… Circular logic.
And here you are, doing their work for them.
I would strongly suggest you do some reading. Do you know who Lorelei Lee is?
