TripleClip

Hey all, I am releasing a little project I have been enslaving AI to make for me, I am hoping by releasing this you guys can contribute to it yourselves with bug fixes/features, and maybe someday have a full working app that is fully cross-compatible.
There have been a few auto PMV generators on this site in the past, personally notable apps were Beats2Fun, Auto PMV Generator V4.3, and ClipMash, I wanted to take inspiration from them, but mainly just for generating PMVs/video compilations.

This is all vibe-coded using OpenCode Big Pickle ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), and I have included an AI onboarding file (AGENTS.md) if anyone would like to continue adding features themselves or understand whatever info it left behind about what it made.

TripleClip

Point it at a folder of clips + a music track, and it detects the beat grid, chops your clips into beat-aligned pieces, then builds a full-length PMV out of four segment styles with optional effects. Everything renders locally through ffmpeg.

Current Features

  • Persisting directories — set on first launch, changeable at any point; your whole session (clips, detected beats, settings) auto-saves every 30s and resumes on the next launch
  • Automatic beat detection — librosa finds BPM + timestamps, every cut in the final video lands on the grid
  • Clip library — thumbnail grid of your folder, click to preview/scrub any video
  • Auto-Chop / Auto-Chop All — splits videos into usable clips at beat-aligned windows; short videos are handled smartly (1–2 full-length clips instead of micro-chops)
  • 4 segment modes, mixed by percentage weights:
    • Normal — classic triptych: center clip + mirrored outer panel pair; alternates between full-crop portrait triptychs and “stacked YT” triptychs (landscape sources vstacked to fill a portrait panel), never more than 2 of the same style in a row
    • Hold — fullscreen clip moments
    • Rapid — fast jump-cut bursts; the second burst continues the same source video so it reads as an intentional montage instead of random flashing
    • Scroll — TikTok-style conveyor belt sliding horizontally across the canvas (portrait singles + stacked landscape pairs); off by default, raise its weight to enable
  • Effects (toggle + intensity each): beat-synced fades between all segments, per-panel floating shake (each panel drifts independently), hypno haze overlay, RGB-split glitch flash on cuts
  • Output control — resolution, fps, codec (x264 / x265 / AV1 / mpeg4), preset, CRF, audio bitrate

Install

Requirements: Python 3.10+ and ffmpeg (ffprobe ships with it) on PATH.

  • Windows — double-click tripleclip\run.bat. It checks ffmpeg for you (winget install Gyan.FFmpeg if missing), creates the venv, installs deps on first run, and launches. Get Python from python.org with “Add to PATH” ticked during setup.
  • Linux — cd tripleclip && bash run.sh; optional bash install.sh also registers a desktop launcher entry
  • macOS — brew install python ffmpeg, then same as Linux

CachyOS Linux on KDE Plasma w/ Wayland is my tested platform; Windows/macOS run identical code but have less mileage — updates to running this on these platforms is welcome.

Workflow in 30 seconds

  1. Pick video folder → thumbnails fill in
  2. Pick music → beats detected automatically
  3. Hit Auto-Chop All or go through clips yourself with the Chop Clip Tool
  4. Defaults are probably okay, but you can tune pacing weights / effects on the right panel
  5. Export

Honest notes / known quirks

  • Scroll mode works end-to-end but is still slightly buggy — please feel free to continue development on this
  • The zoom slider is currently a no-op (reserved for future devs)
  • Encoding is CPU-only; presets above fast get slow on long compilations
  • No undo/redo yet

For devs / fellow AI enjoyers

AGENTS.md in the repo root is a full technical onboarding: architecture, the 4-phase export pipeline internals, scroll-belt geometry math, and the list of every non-obvious failure that cost my ass days of time (freeze bugs, concat pitfalls, ffmpeg quirks). There’s also tools/verify_pipeline.py, an end-to-end test harness with synthetic sources. Point any coding agent at AGENTS.md and it should be able to continue development without stepping on landmines.

Bug reports / feature ideas welcome — for crashes, attach ~/.config/tripleclip/crash.log and your pacing/effect settings to your ability. All I ask is to not involve me with the future of this app in any way, but do what you will with it!

This sounds awesome, Thank you for sharing this.
Bookmarked for later
