Hello there, ive recently been dabbling in VR through my phone and ive been tempted to get the meta quest 3s. I do have a keon as well and wondering what peoples tips and opinions are on the cooperation between the 2. How it all works and such. Any information is helpful. Loving the community here, thanks a bunch!
I’m getting my quest in a week and use OSR2 on PC so I’ll see later
.
I have quest 2 and its great and affordable. I will update soon to quest 3. The quest 3 is better than the 3s because of the lenses used in it. Quest 3s uses same lenses as quest 2, quest 3 uses better lenses that make most of the screen focused at once instead of just having a focus spot. So in my opinion get the quest 2 used or new or if you have extra money get the quest 3 new or used. I would avoid the quest 3s. My quest 2 paired to pc viewing 8k videos (not native 8k) looks so close to real in person.
So would you recommend having a decent pc before gettin the headset?
With the Quest 2/3 you don’t need a PC as such, the headset is it’s own unit but you may need a PC to store or transfer files for use with the set. Sets have the ability to connect and stream video from a PC if you are thinking about games for example, in this case the PC requirements are based on what games you run. If you’re thinking about the content of this site, you’ll be fine with just a headset and a small PC to store or transfer your files. For streaming content and scripts from PC, check for example XBVR.
Just get a 3S. Use XTP player and you are sorted. I have a 3 but I think the 3S is enough for this kind of thing.
I would really really recommend the normal Quest 3 because the lenses make a big difference. Cheapest and most hassle free set up would be Quest 3S + The Handy + Heresphere (by far the best VR player). Or the same just with the normal Quest 3 which I would recommend.
No tinkering required for the Handy (only in rare cases if you are really unlucky and then you have a company behind that device and good support, in my case I used my Handy 1314 times according to my stats and I never had a single issue except for their web server having some issues for 3-4 days last year)
Quest 3 or 3S just works with Heresphere. PICO etc. are more of a hassle.
No decent PC required, just as a storage for your files
So with that setup:
- No tinkering, great speeds and most scripts on here are made for the Handy
- Great visuals, no sweet spot you need to look for with Quest 3
- best VR player (there is a free demo version) that can handle everything thrown at it, includes auto focus, super sampling, great passthrough options and more
- No cables except for the Handy
As you already have a Keon you can just connect the device through Bluetooth in Heresphere.
If you like to sort your collection you can use something like XBVR. It’s not really needed though. Just SMB share your folders and look them up in Heresphere. Piss easy, because the folder just needs permissions for that.
