VR Scripts with Smartphone VR Headsets?

Personally i do not have a dedicated VR headset, just an iphone and a VR headset for it, think google cardboard.

I tried using handyfeeling, but the more demanding VR video’s dont seem to run well on it. Video’s load poorly, frame drops, which lead to eventual desync of video and script, and the poor ui for VR also does not help.

I do have a decent desktop so i was hoping to offload a chunk of the performance to there, but i wouldn’t know where to start.

Anyone has experience with this and could help me set this up properly?

When I’ve done this I experienced the same thing. I ended up reducing the video resolution using different methods (Handbrake is now my go to) and it worked decently enough. For example: my older phone screen was 1920 x 1080 so I’d reduce VR videos to fit within that 1920 size (usually 1920 x 960) and often I also cut the framerate in half if it’s 59.94 or 60 fps to end up with 29.97 or 30 fps. That likely makes the image darker, but the whole phone in a cheap stereoscopic box thing is not ideal anyway I’d guess. I’ve never bothered to go any further with VR myself.

That was indeed my backup plan. I was just wondering if there were better alternatives that offer higher quality and hopefully a better player as well
