Weird VR Videos question

Do you guys mentally process VR videos differently than regular 2D videos? Its hard to describe but do you feel the same exact mental stimulation?
I do not want to alter anyone’s opinion but I feel slightly different neither good nor bad but my brain does recognize the difference and I am turned on accordingly.
I would appreciate thoughts on this.

When I first bought a VR headset (before I even knew VR porn was a thing), I did a little bit of research. Different people interpret VR with different levels of realism. For some people, images in a VR headset never looks real. For other people, the images look very real.

I have a friend who never finds VR games immersive. For me, my fear of heights is triggered if I look over a cliff in a VR game. Also, VR porn is VERY immersive for me, and when I watch porn, I would guess that more than 95% of the time I am watching VR porn.

So, it is possible that the answer to your question probably depends on how much people’s brains accept the VR scene as “real.”

That’s my $0.02 on the topic.

Phantom sense is also a thing

For me, VR videos are immersive…
But due to the limited viewing angle in VR hardware at the moment, my brain somehow still understands that this isn’t real and that I’m looking at a screen.
So I often have to focus hard to feel a real experience.
I hope the viewing angle becomes more realistic soon with new VR hardware; I think that will make a big difference.

Btw, I only have experience with a Meta Quest 2 so far. I’ve never experienced better hardware, so I’m also curious to see what that will be like.

Have you used pimax? I wouldn’t say vr hardware has limited viewing angles you don’t need to wait for new vr hardware we have already had headsets better than the quest 2 for a while

Honestly?..sometimes ..if a video has a good build up, acting wise, and is shot in really good quality..i swear i can feel their breath on me when they get close :face_with_raised_eyebrow: the mind is a very powerful thing and when coupled with an e stroker with a good script..it can get pretty intense..another wierd thing was this..when i started watching VR porn regularly, i basically switched form playing games to only watching porn. SO much so that when i was starting to put my headset on i would instantly start getting a semi on lol..pavlovian conditioning or what!

As stated above, immersion with VR varies from person to person. But you can do things to make the experience more immersive for yourself.

  • Good headphones and binaural audio in videos can really help. Binaural audio are the funny looking microphones with a human-shaped ear on them. They come in pairs spaced like ears on positioned on a human head. The purpose of this is to re-create the sounds in the scene with extra accuracy. Those subtle audio cues help you focus on the scene as if it is real.
  • Being comfortable. If you aren’t relaxed you’ll have a harder time. For me, using a manual stroker or even holding the Handy was much less immersive. My hand would cramp or my arm would get tired during a long session. Now I have a hands free Handy 2 Pro setup and I can just enjoy the experience.
  • Engagement. No matter how well acted - and let’s face it, that’s a rare thing in porn - if you aren’t into the scene it isn’t going to pull you in. I like variety, so I have an extensive collection of VR porn. But if I’m not in the mood for the “perky blonde cheerleader seduces her coach” roleplay - quality of the content won’t matter. Find the porn that really gets you excited.
  • Distractions. For me seeing the male performer’s hairy ass immediately pulls me out of the scene. So I avoid VR porn that’s not POV. I also avoid VR porn with extra guys in the scene.
  • Anxiety. If you’re worried about someone coming in the room you are going to be on edge the entire time.
  • Passthrough. The hassles of getting passthrough just right can be a real boner killer. But if you can dial these videos in it can really add to the immersion. She’s right there! In your room! And she’s riding my cock while the Handy does its thing!

When all these things come together and you forget you’re watching a video the experience is magical.

I heavily agree with watching only POV porn. I also avoid extra guys. I only really watch it from 2D porn if anything. I also HATE when the guy spits!
The audio of some videos suck ass but sometimes that’s all that particular has at the moment and we just have to make due.

Is there a way to improve the quality of passthrough? I have a Quest 3S and sometimes its great sometimes its not. i just attributed it to the video itself.

before VR, i pavloved myself with by phone opening incognito tabs on my bed… so i totally get you.

How shit. I have never seen this until you brought it up. Im assuming its not popular due to the price. Are there any other companies that provide better alternatives to a Quest 3?

This is the big question lots of folks are asking right now. You are correct that the quality is often up to the studio.

While it does require fiddling around, HereSphere has a number of controls that allow you to adjust passthrough videos. Making the female performer taller, wider, adjusting the angle, and transparency controls are all in the app. I’m a big fan, although the UI does take some effort to get the hang of.

The other nice thing about HereSphere is that it can run directly on the Quest headsets, making it very convenient versus connecting to a PC.

Depends on what you are looking for I recommend doing some digging

I would add that Active Noise Cancelling headphones help a lot. Not hearing the mechanical sound of the Handy helps tons with immersion. I currently use the Sony XM4s -which by now are two generations old- and added to a proper volume of the video, I can totally forget about the noise of the Handy unless I actively try to hear it.

…i definitely process them differently, watching 2D on a VR headset is not the same as watching 3D. i’ve only ever use the VR headset for scripts, and only use scripts with a headset (so simple to use, never bothered with the PC for scripts), so my Pavlovian response to the headset is pretty intense! xD

A great trick i discovered for pass-through is running it together with some more extreme interest porn on the big screen. Nothing like watching your favourite fetish whilst getting edged and blown by a beautiful girl, and to be fair VR in general lacks variety, so you can get the best of both world that way.

The key factor in VR is immersion. Hands free, no disturbances, relaxed, lying in bed, floating away into the virtual, that’s when it works best. Oddly, pass-through seems to help with immersion, because it puts you into a space you’re already in, your brain doesn’t need to make an extra step to be in the scene, the scene come to you, as it were. And you never have to crack the headset to grab a drink, or find the poppers, or wtvr, and therefore you’re not breaking immersion.

VR porn is limited at present by its POV dependency. Not that i haven’t enjoyed a few sessions being cucked in my time, with an edging machine instead of scripts, but yea… hairy man ass… other factors… it’s okay if you wanna get cucked imo, but otherwise i find it a turn-off. Whereas, in 2D i’ve no problem with the hairy ass, i dunno, maybe i’ve just grown up with hairy ass and 2D porn.

Or you can have non-POV without naked man ass in it, and then it feels more like watching ‘normal’ porn, but in 3D. There’s something about observing stuff in 3D that’s utterly different than in 2D. Which is kinda where we came it… there definitely is a different, more subjective, mental process involved with the experience.

i’d love more niche, kink, non-POV stuff shot in 3D. Unfortunately the market seems to gravitate exponentially to vanilla heteronormative POV. The cost of equipment, learning to work with it (you might only get fifteen mins to shoot before the camera overheats, for example), all work against it’s adoption by the amateur market. Most people are still shooting with a financial reward in mind, hence they’ll gravitate towards lower denominators. And having SLR nuke original creators like they were swatting flies hasn’t helped either. But it’ll get there! Hopefully…!

SLR have been doing what? getting rid of competition? WTF!!

Agreed. The lack of even anal content in VR from big studios is frustrating. And the niche stuff we do have is flawed I’ve found.

  • Darkroom VR has male dom / female sub content, but it’s very performative - after a bit of back and forth the largely vanilla sex starts and the bdsm is sidelined.
  • KinkVR exists. Ownership has changed hands a few times - not sure of the current owner, but it was previously different than Kink.com despite the branding being similar. Their kink content is seldom to my tastes personally and is often non-sexual bdsm.
  • GroobyVR and TransVR now seem to have the same content. Both are pretty expensive, but are available from VRPorn.com with a significant release delay.
  • VirtualRealTrans and VRBTrans lean heavily into the Brazillian Trans performers. Some fantastic beauties, but the language barrier is real. Their American scenes are good, if infrequent.
  • Even if you find a scene you like, little of the trans content gets scripted. The SLR AI generated scripts are often unavailable for the couple of studios SLR works with for trans content too.

I continue to hope that the proliferation of relatively inexpensive VR hardware will make room for niche content in the market - but that doesn’t seem to be the case yet unfortunately.

…more like the best (in my opinion), original content on their site getting booted, literally shooting themselves in the foot. Not to mention the barely disguised transphobia that’s rendered their trans content meaningless…

My favorite headphones as well. I also use a fabric resistance Band to get a tight seal.
