XTPlayer could be doing bad things

TLDR; Long story short, XTPlayer for whatever reason is an absolute cpu hog that runs in the background even after closing the program causing insane heat build.

Further explanation is that i obtained an SR1 recently “shoutout to the creator of that cock monster btw” and from what i gathered the XTPlayer was what i should use with it so i went to the github and obtained it. Well at the time i had also built my third pc with some rather high end specs only to find that for what ever reason the cpu temps were peaking beyond safe ranges. I could not find the culprit for the life of me even going as far as to replacing the aio until one day while monitoring my mobo’s statistics i spotted something odd in the process feed.
XTPl was running with around 15% cpu load even when the program itself was not in use causing my temps to shoot from 112f to over 180f (44c-82c). I might try to see if i can get the SR1 to run with good ol’ scriptplayer. Those temps will melt the silicon in a cpu.

82°C is absolutely safe.
TJMax is the spec you can look up for when a CPU will throttle and if maintained eventually shut off the system.
If those temps would be dangerous, any notebook would be dead on first boot.

Can’t speak for XTPlayer as I haven’t used it. But those temps are absolutely safe and within reason.

If the program runs at 15% and it reaches those temps, then imagine what playing a game would do when the CPU may run at 80%-100%?

In general. CPUs throttle when the temps go to high. But that usually happens at between 80-100°C depending on CPU and system.

Weird. XTPlayer is behaving perfectly normally for me (0% CPU when idle and process terminates when closing the program) and I’ve never seen anyone have these kinds of problems. @Khrull might be able to help you but it might be something local to your machine.

This is 82c at idle. XTPL was causing all that heat by itself.

Such a nice guy. It’s almost like trying to be helpful is worth getting trolled. Also https://gprivate.com/6dxxb

15% CPU load = 82c?!? You got other problems homie.

This computer isn’t using a 13xxxK or 14xxxK by any chance?

That seems more like a cooling issue to me with that little CPU Usage unless there is anything else running, that is causing load on the system.
The temperature is safe. CPUs will throttle when they get too hot to prevent damage.
Unless it is an end Intel 13XXXk or 14XXXk which kill themselves overtime due to a bad powerlimit set by primarily Intel. BIOS Update can prevent further damange on these chips, but the damage done is permanent and may not show any signs right away.

mixmox82 probably wants to point out the same thing.

You can look up TJMax for your specific CPU. That is the highest rated ‘safe’ temperature set by the Manufacturer of that chip.

Regardless. The Program using 15% CPU while not in use is odd.

For the 13th and 14th gens, while temperature is important, voltages are the real culprit. You’ll want to make sure you don’t spike your Vcore to anything higher than 1.4v to be absolutely safe. Intel says ~1.45 is safe, but I undervolt and make sure mine doesn’t exceed 1.4v at any point in time.

Temps are a really bad way of determining issues without indicating what sort of cooler and fan speeds you’re running when observing said “anomaly”. You could be running a 480mm rad with fans running at 2200RPM, or you might be running an air cooler with fans at 600RPM. Those would dramatically affect what your temperatures are. Also, e…g 60c with Vcore spikes of 1.5v is MUCH less safe than 95c with Vcore of 1.375v.

Zero issues with XTPlayer for me, running linux.

XTP player will always and forever be my go to. Not a single problem

You can start the application in debug mode with the bat file in the exe directory. This will pop up a terminal to maybe see what its doing in the logs. I’m wondering if its generating a thumbnail that it doesn’t have a codec for.

I assure you if there’s an issue its not intentional.
