yeah it’s for M3 chips and later for decoding. not sure about encoding.
i only found out recently as well because a person mentioned saying QuickTime would show the no video but audio was coming through.
I downloaded the video and same issue. It was an MP4 video with AV1 for video. Audio was a compatible codec so they had audio but no video.
M3 and higher is still a hard ask tho? I don’t imagine a large chunk of people have such recent hardware?
One way would be to support an external player like VLC that does support the codec?
Tho that goes against your point about software decoding not being a solution? Unless I’m misunderstanding something of course?
