OK, apparently my script consumption is a bit different than many here. In a given session, I may hop through like 20-30 scripts before I hit critical mass.
Fast forward through intro.
Skip positions I don’t like.
Drop out of a script because the speed/rhythm isn’t doing it for me at that particular moment.
Dropping out of a vid because the audio or video sucks.
Hunting around to see what actress/scenario my dick is hungry for that day.
I’m kind of the same way. There was a survey a bit ago which asked a variety of questions, and one of them was preferred script length. I was surprised that the majority preferred what I’d consider longer content. I like going through a few 5ish minute scripts/videos; I queue up a playlist which ramps up.
To add to this; as someone who is relatively new to the game of scripting, I can totally relate. From my perspective, scripting has a ton of barriers for entry. Some of them (from my perspective) include:
Basic knowledge of creating scripts using software like OFS. For starters, OFS isn’t exactly the most user friendly software right out of the gate and if you don’t know anything about the dynamics of your action points/keyframes and how those interact with your toy of choice, it can be quite a roadblock to getting started.
Equipment costs to be a better scripter (ie: better VR headset, a higher end toy (like the Handy), etc). Goes without saying, but this higher end form of masturbation does come with a pretty hefty price tag to get started. For a lot of people (unless they are building their own SR unit) are going to find that a non-starter to wanting to script (especially for free).
The time commitment. When I first started out with scripting, my fist script took almost 20 hours to complete (and that was with some very light testing). Tell someone to commit that amount of time to just one video and also that they won’t be compensated for their time is a pretty tough pill to swallow for any newbie. Unless it’s their favorite scene of all time in their collection, there’s not too many that I would know that wouldn’t put in that sort of a time commit in exchange for a few likes and potentially a thank you comment.
All that said, I do think that there’s a fine balance between offering paid and free scripts. I say if you’re the power scripter type and can knock out a few scenes a month without breaking a sweat, then yes…offering a few free scripts here and there I’m sure isn’t a half bad idea. However, for those that are thinking about getting into scripting and are looking for something more than just a virtual high five for their efforts, what about doing some sort of monthly contest? It could be something like a if a scripter gets the most votes/downloads for the month on one of their scripts, they get a free scene commission from another volunteer member of the community and they have rights to it exclusively for a month before it’s then offered free to the rest of the community?
