I haven’t publicated it here, but this feature has been removed as users didn’t like it. I will use another approach that is not as intrusive as the current one. Expect an update for that in the future.
Well, this solution wont work with incognito mode, unless the users log in:
But you could make it so that if it was connected at least once in the past x days, that it just accepts watching the videos fully. The login data on that can store this information. Guests then have this limited feature.
This way you dont directly need the device, but still at least has a bit of checking for this.
Also, some of those video sites do perform previews by skipping a lot of sections, but showing a lot more and shorter sections. Maybe this also works? So it shows 20 seconds of each 2 minute section as a preview mode. This makes it unsuitable for watching the video (forcing them to open the source), but can still give quite some indication.
Anyway, the login requirement while being less convenient, is far less intrusive since at least functionality for logged in users is the same as the current state.
The new approach will allow you to watch the video without any problems. There will just be a permanent banner/message, that you should connect your device to the video, as this is the main purpose of the site.
Love the VR feature! my only ask is you have a textbox or slider to change fov for the site embed. I’m not sure if th dl8-video api has something for that but i’m sure something can be scrapped up in javascript
No VR videos were behind a paywall. Video creators were always able to choose whether to provide a script download or not, also for normal videos.
It only works with the Handy, because I don’t have a bluetooth device to test. Thousands of people use FapTap, but not a single one has asked whether he can help me/test for me. So it doesn’t seem that important anyways.
FapTap is free and funded by affiliate income. Nobody has ever had to pay a single cent to use FapTap. Most of the affiliate offers are only working for The Handy, so I focus on that. The site doesn’t even include any advertisements, which literally every other free site does.
