Finally stable

The database is external to the app server.
The database should now be rock solid stable and handle the load of the forum without sharing memory and cpu with redis/sidekiq/unicorn/nginx.
The database is now able to restore to a point in time, and I will continue to do full dumps of the database to my S3 storage.

Next I plan to setup high availability/load balancing. This will make it so there will be no downtime during updates/site changes. This will be coming in the next week but im leaving the site alone for now while I see how performance works over time.

Changes

I have made 2 changes since the site came back up.

  1. Dark mode by default. If you’re a light mode user, come fight me.
  2. No more anonymous access. This was overdue but an 18+ community should not allow anonymous access anyway. So login is now required (removed for now, going to find a better way)

If you encounter any issues feel free to report them in https://discuss.eroscripts.com/t/report-migration-issues

MUUUUUUUUUUUCH better so far! Thanks for all that you do @VladTheImplier

It was taking me 15-30 seconds to load anything, and it was nearly impossible to make new posts. It took me a solid 20 minutes just to get the tags to load on my stupid LOTR PMV post.

Thank you for your work, the site has become much faster.
But is there a button somewhere in the settings to switch back to the light theme?
I hate dark backgrounds in apps

Go to your profile and select Preferences > Interface and you will find the theme there.

the default dark mode change makes the stability news only the #2 most important announcement in this thread

thank you for your work once again!

Thank you for your hard again, Vlad
The site seems very stable and I haven’t run into any performance issues so far.

I also have to type out my thanks, considering a heart is not enough.
I followed along on discord quietly, and saw how much work and stress you put into this website.
Since today it works 10 times better, so I hope you get a bit of rest after days and days of chaos.

Finally able to use the site again! Great work Vlad and Team!

Thank you for this big improvement, it’s the night and day.
Pleasure to have an action responding directly versus wait 20-30 seconds

Great work. Site is performing much better now. And we can actually search for stuff again.

But … speaking of search, it is outputting results in this weird tile/grid format:

I have tried searching for a setting that would put out searches in list format as it used to do pre-migration, but if there is such a setting, it is eluding me.

This isn’t high on the list of priorities, but it would be nice to get it back as it was.

All the best.

Back in Black!

Short and simple: Thanks!

Much better now. Thanks for all your hard work :slightly_smiling_face:

Much better now. Now it’s usable again. Appreciate the hard work :+1: :flexed_biceps:
