I am currently unable to set a thumbnail like I used to:
For reference this is a new post above but editing old posts will remove the thumbnail entirely.

Edit: fixed. btw that button never did anything. I learned that during testing.
The issue was I wrote a typo in anonymous access permissions on the S3 storage.
I set optimised/ read only
it should have been: optimized/ read only

That’s a weird one.
try this:
right click > inspect element > network
Disable the caching:
then with the dev tools open refresh the page
Double thumbnails are gone now. But without doing what you described.
Even more interesting.
If it shows up again let me know and screenshot your dev tools network tab after a refresh. I want to see what requests are happening.
On the old site that button didn’t do anything.
I learned that during testing.
I actually don’t know why that button was there.

Oh really? That’s surprising. So posts will always use the first available image/gif for the thumbnail?

Not sure if this is the right place for it, but it has changed from the old site.
If you click on Topics → New
the “Dismiss New” button is now on top instead of the bottom of the page.
With few updates like 3-4 it’s not an issue but when I’ve been gone a week and log in again I would scroll through new and in the end click Dismiss new on the bottom of the page.
The select thumbnail button? That always worked for me and it’s gone now so can’t change the thumbnail currently if I would like to (well I always change it).
I’m planning to re-add it.
I will re-add it when the migration is complete.

or will it only show up on the bottom if top is not visible anymore?

Though on the old version (discuss.) it always showed up at the bottom for me.
