Flag for missing videos/dead links or community notes feature

There are people that dislike me bumping topics that have dead links to videos other people also do this. There should be a way to flag the topic to the creator of the post so they can potentially update the post without bumping the topic. Another alternative is something akin to community notes in twitter/x where it could add info relating to the post such as dead links without bumping the post.

i think this is a good idea, something to ping the creator that the video provided is dead. sometimes we just dont notice when a video goes dead. I would say that this should be used unless the creator specifically states that
they can be messaged or pinged for a video link.

The community could also update links in the replies if they see a notice/note about dead links

Since I started on here, I have been Necroing threads with active links. I think there should be an achievement for this! :rofl:.

With most of these threads I DO notice the OP would generally leave a like on it.

Adding a link in a thread that no longer has a working one is ok.
The issue with what the OP is doing is that they just add a “missing video” comment which bumps the threads for no good reason.

Plenty of people bump old topics to say that links aren’t working even when I do not bump a topic that I updated the tags on that is missing videos I’ve noticed a bunch of people bumping those topics to do what I was doing before. You have an issue with bumping I personally think letting people know that topics have links that are dead is a good reason even if you disagree on that.

Yeah I think it’s pretty obvious I disagree on that (and I’m not alone), I just replied because you misrepresented the issue in the OP.

I’ll add that the site rules say this:

  • If there isn’t a free link to a video, help out the community by finding and sharing that link yourself. If you’ve tried your best but can’t found a source, you can ask in the thread if someone else can share a link.
  • If all the links to video in thread are dead and the source was not found in a while, report it for lost-media for archival
  • Do not ask for links in the replies if another user has already asked for a link.
  • Do not ask for links in the replies if a free link is already available.
  • Do not DM scripters asking for links, instead ask in the replies so everyone can benefit.
    Site Rules

Nowhere does it say to add a “missing video” comment.
Especially when you don’t do the bare minimum of checking whether there are still working links.

“you misrepresented the issue in the OP” I disagree with that statement. The rules do not state that I can’t use that specific phrasing and again the majority of topics that I’ve bumped actually have dead links sure there are some that had links working but I am not the only one that does this or makes that mistake you can miss links it happens. I made this topic to potentially have an alternative way to do what I was doing previously I’ve avoided bumping topics since you’ve asked me not to and people are still bumping topics that I would have bumped first. There are a few people that dislike what I do and there are plenty of other people that haven’t complained when I bump topics those people even like my bump and there are plenty of times where a link is actually provided because of the bump.

If you’ve tried your best but can’t found a source, you can ask in the thread if someone else can share a link.

The rules are pretty clear, and I’m pretty sure you don’t try your best to find a source before posting “missing video”.
