my handy 2 pro which was brand new already broke
I was plugging it in to charge and i grabbed the wire the wrong way and the usb-c port just broke off
contacting their support to see if i can return it to be replaced
but it really fucking sucks
I think i’m cursed with usb ports because just a few months ago i had a usbc problem on my laptop
but i’ve never seen a usb c port break off like this it seems like its not very solidly attached inside the device only attached with 2 soldering points which is why it broke off so easily
so yeah if you have the device be very careful charging it and make sure its fully charged don’t even bother using it while its plugged into the wire it will probably break the port
I wasn’t doing this because the long battery life made it not needed but i purposely didnt charge it i wanted the battery to get to minimum before i charge it again and when i was done i went to chage ir got up from my bed placed my hand on the wire and thats how it broke
the device was in a mount so it didnt move and this probably is why it broke but it doesn’t excuse why the port is designed so poorly it can be broken just from a wire being yanked in any direction from being plugged in.
i hope they add some thin plastic covering over the port even if its under the rubber outer material to keep this from happening on future batches
Pretty much the same thing happened to mine about a month ago. They will replace it but it’s a bit of a wait due to them being in the middle of production.
Mine did the same thing yesterday but as i was unplugging it there was a snap sound. It doesnt charge now. Glad it isnt just me that has broken it already. It must be really poorly designed and built as I have never had any trouble with USB ports before.
Yeah the issue is the design of the entire unit actually. Nothing surrounds the port like for example a hard outer plastic shell or metal fixing it to the chassis it’s free floating with nothing keeping it in place other than solder points which is why it breaks so easily
Were these all from the first early bird batch? I know they made changes to address some of the issues that were reported. I got mine in late November and so far it’s been good. The mounting holes have been sturdy, and I have had no issue with the USB C port. It seems pretty solid.
I’d say its also because it was a bran new cable i got so its connection was very solid and also my device was in a mount which made it not move. but i think even considering these factors it still shouldn’t be capable of breaking this way at all no matter how much i pull on a cable plugged into it. multiple other ppl have reported similar problems on their discord. imo they should add some plastic housing under the hood to prevent this from happening again plastic with a usb c shaped hole woul’ve been enough to stop that from happening in the first place
Mine arrived this Saturday. Early Bird, but I think batch 2. Was supposed to arrive in October.
I’ve reached out to handy folks, but haven’t heard back yet.
I have a feeling I’ll be waiting a long time for a replacement. Stinks after waiting 2 months I hate that I’ll have to wait for so long after already being delayed.
rip. i think if i was going to do anything different i would rip the rubber off the back and surround the port with hotglue for support that would still be better than what they sent basically
My first Handy 2 usb charging cable got squashed internally and broke.
They replaced the device quickly, after which I opened the defunct one and found the issue, sharing ti with support.
I was reaching out through kickstarter for an unrelated reason cause I’m pretty sure you guys sent me the pro by accident when I ordered the regular one so I was just trying to figure out which one I was sent. My device is black it’s the same weight as the pro the battery life seems long and it has the option in the app to be over clocked not that i planned to enable it but I know the regular device can’t be over clocked. So I was asking them what model I have and sent them the barcode to find out.
I fixed my device by taking it apart and connecting the red and black wires from the battery disconnecting it from the battery and connecting these wires to a dc to USB c adapter switched to 15 volts which is close to the handy 2s voltage of 14.8 and now my device is wired and no longer has a battery but it works.
Support said they would send me a new device and for me to keep my old one so with these modifications I’ve made now my old device does work at least
My Handy 2 pro doesn’t charge out of the box. It will detect a charger and flash what looks like a charging symbol but the percentage never goes up. I emailed support over 48 hours ago and haven’t gotten a response other than the automated one.
