Heresphere and XBVR setup

I apologize in advance that this post may seem like a laundry list of questions, but I’m brand new to VR with funscripts and a new Keon. I have a very large library of VR scenes downloaded though so I’m trying to have the best experience with accessing them. Rather than moving them one at a time to my headset, I was looking for PC to Headset options.

I just read the instructions on this post (Heresphere/XBVR setup) about using Virtual Desktop to connect my Oculus Quest 3S to my laptop. I have a couple of questions and issues that I was hoping someone could answer:

  1. The above link refers to XBVR as a given for this setup. So I followed these instructions (XBVR Guide - Host your own Video/Funscript streaming with Images, Previews and More!) to set up XBVR and it worked great. I entered Heresphere on my headset and was able to access the videos from my computer. So my first question is why would I need to go through the instructions on the Virtual Desktop approach? Is there a benefit that I’m unaware of? Would love to understand more.

  2. Within the XBVR setup in #1 above, during scraping I was able to get some sites (e.g., SLR Originals) but not others (e.g., LethalHardcoreVR and VRSpy). Any idea why?

  3. Assuming #1 provides rationale for why I want this setup, ‘Polt Patron’ clearly articulates the steps for VD in 5 steps. In step 3, I’m able to launch Heresphere from VD in the “games” tab but when it launches it takes me to a view of like outer space with no options or anything else on my VR headset. In step 5 he says you’ll see a “library interface by pressing the play button up top”. I don’t have that. Then, when I take my headset off and view my PC I get an error saying that the Heresphere has crashed: LowLevelFatalError [File Unknown] [Line 198] Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x887A0006 - ‘HUNG’. How should I proceed? I may try deleting everything and starting over, but was hoping someone could answer #1 first because I’m putting a lot of effort into this setup and it’s not working, while the XBVR through Heresphere solution from the other article works fine!

  4. So I’ve downloaded a lot of scenes from VRPorn.com and have a new membership to SLR. The SLR scenes work with the Keon via DeoVR with the scripts by just logging in. But if I want to download and keep for my library offline, how do I download the scripts as well? Do I have to find a separate site? I don’t think I’ve ever downloaded a script, so any information on that and how to get it setup with the above solutions would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Last, and definitely least, someone in one of the two posts above referred to having like 200 (or maybe 2000?) TB of files. I’ve only seen external hard drives up to like 24TB so I had to buy several. Would love to consolidate to one large drive, so wondering if that is possible. I’m also trying to figure out right now if the XBVR solution above can grab files from my external drive or just my PC so I’m testing that now.

Thanks in advance for any and all help on the above. First time poster but have enjoyed reading many posts so far - super helpful.

Quick follow up: for #4 I learned that I can add files directly from my external hard drive (which is great). However, unfortunately, almost all of my VR scenes are downloaded from vrporn.com but I don’t see that on the list of “scraper” sites. Will I have to redownload all of those scenes (there’s probably over 1k) on SLR? Or is there another way to get them on XBVR that I’m missing?

Such an well thought out, detailed and expertly formatted question from “AnalLover27” is why this place is great.

Hiya!

So first, I’d recommend you join the official XBVR discord as it seems you have a few questions and while I can try to help as much as I can, I’m not one of the developers myself (and I dont know if any peruse ES directly) so I’ve often found better help there.

Here goes:

  1. Some prefer the experience of streaming VR videos running on their PC to their headset, whether they want to game and use VR porn at the same time, or simply because they feel it works better. I do not generally bother with this but I do have it set up.
  2. Some scrapers are unfortunately broken at the moment due to changes on the porn sites themselves. You can get more info on this in the xbvr discord, and one of the users there is publishing importable “packs” of studio scene scrapes you can manually import for the time being to catch up. Be sure if you use these - when importing to disable overwriting watch history/ratings/etc. or you may screw up those metrics (if you care).
  3. Seems far beyond my abilities - hate to be a broken record but for this I’d join the virtual desktop discord, not sure on this error.
  4. The site itself has to offer downloads - I’m not sure if VRporn does… SLR does (limited to 3 or 4 a month, or you can buy as many as you want a-la-carte). For the most part studios dont let you take things offline - which is why Eroscripts (and to an extent, SLR) are awesome.
  5. A NAS is what you want to do something like this. If you are not super familiar I would get something turnkey from QNAP, Ugreen or Asus. Synology used to be my go-to recommendation but they are changing their policies to only allow their own branded hard drives which are overpriced for no reason. The slightly cheaper option here is to just make your own server and set up RAID5/6 (merging the disks in to a pool) but this requires a fair bit of expertise.

Re your addendum question VRporn is an aggregator site that re-posts other scene studios, so just match them to their original studio. AKA if the scene is from vrporn but the original studio is Wankz, just match to the wankz scene.

  1. Pre-Quest 3 headsets cannot playback videos encoded using the newest AV1 codec using the on-headset GPU. A modern gaming PC can playback those videos however, so using Virtual Desktop with a PC would give some added life to older headsets. Some people believe the video quality is better using a PC’s typically more powerful GPU as well, although the compression needed to use VirtualDesktop or similar solutions arguably cancels out this advantage.

  2. LethalHardcore’s site is broken. Most use SLR for this site’s content - especially because SLR is releasing edited versions of LethalHardcore scenes. VRSpy recently added a JavaScript bot challenge to their entire site, which xbvr doesn’t handle. It is currently not possible to scrape VRSpy directly. You can create a custom scraper to pull from Stash - a somewhat complicated process I won’t get into here. Alternatively, you can download the “scraper bundles” on the xbvr Discord, where community members have shared a file you can import into xbvr to get the VRSpy scenes. There are bundles for a few other problematic sites offered as well.

  3. Personally I only use HereSphere via my headset. Since HereSphere controls the Handy it’s simple to lube up the Handy, get in position, and go. People who use the PC instead are often using non-Handy hardware, which requires running additional programs on the PC to control the toy. While I was impressed with my SR6, the extra size, complexity, and fragility of the device made it much less convenient than the Handy. I want to fuck virtual women, not fight with the software and hardware.

  4. If you look below the video on an SLR page there are several icons. This one:
    image
is supposed to be a moving stroker toy. If you click on it you can download or purchase the script SLR offers. Note that you get 3 free human and 3 free script downloads each month with an SLR Video + Scripts membership. These are not redeemed to your account however - as purchased scripts are - so you can only re-download them for a month. You would have to use a second free download later to get an updated script, which is most likely with the AI scripts, although not common.

Once you download the funscript you can put it in a folder xbvr can see, and associate it with the scene. Then HereSphere will automatically retrieve the funscript when you play the video and send it to the connected device.

As @dingle mentioned, you want to look for the original studio behind the VRPorn download. Also, if you haven’t been downloading the highest quality VRPorn scenes - know that you may have issues with script sync. VRPorn re-encodes the lower quality videos to 60fps, which causes problems if the original script was a different framerate.

  1. I’m one of the wacky folks with 200TB+ of video files. I have a NAS, as @dingle described. I actually run xbvr from my NAS in a container. I use an older Synology, but as @dingle mentioned they’re all but dropping the consumer market unfortunately.

DS1621+ user - synology is really doing us dirty. Probably going to roll my own NAS in the future but we self-host chat and synology drive which are pretty crucial and dont have perfect 1:1 open-source replacements so I’m currently on the hunt :expressionless:
