How to encode mp4 files for a proper result in ofs

Let me explain : when I script a video from any studio, i use to take low-res files, smartphone 60fps for instance, as a working mp4 file in OFS. I do it because the navigation is fluent especially when using right and left arrow. On the contrary with 8K files my computer is not powerfull enough to do it.

My problem is with Dezyred scenes which are not available under less than 4K and those file are not fluent enough for my computer. I tried to reencode the 4K files in 2K files or less using HandBrake but the result was not good enough to operate correctly in OFS.

Have you any tips to solve this ?

My computer is weak (AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core with only 8Go RAM and low SSD disk space on the windows partition) but it works perfectly well in OFS with others studios low-res files.

Thanks for caring.

You can do the i-frames trick instead of encoding it beyond 2k. FunExpander has the i-frame tool built into it. It makes navigation way faster. I’d still encode it a bit tho before that since you’re working with a big file.

Thank You very much for your quasi instant answer.

I will try to follow your advice. As it involves to operate 2 new programs, it will take sometime for me (unfortunately i’ll be busy for some next few days).

I appreciate your help and will be back to tell you if this solved my problem.

The program basically you just click the button that says i-frames, open the video, and then it creates it on the spot. Nothing big to learn at all.

Use Handbrake to reencode video to lower resolution (half resolution or half again from 8k) and then encode to i-frames with FunExpander. Pay attention to the framerate which shouldn’t be changed (which is almost always 59.94fps) or else script wont be synced to the source.
