Discord has since updated us with feedback below, we will remain vigilant until we decide we can safely resume NSFW on discord.
The discord found on the left hand side of the forum will be going sfw.
It is advised to refuse to perform the age verification as discord has already proven to not be trustworthy of your personally identifiable information:

According to discord If you are banned due to the verification (being under the minimum age) you MUST give them your ID to be unbanned.
Yeah and this is why I still like using forums over discord for community shit.
This will definitely be an issue for the Scripters that use discord to distribute. So good luck to them if they decide to do anything regarding all this.

I’m primarily distributing my scripts and editing content via discord, not to mention stay in touch with my patrons and followers.
So yeah, I’ll have to find an alternative asap.

Direct messages and servers that are not age-restricted will continue to function normally, but users won’t be able to send messages or view content in an age-restricted server until they complete the age check process, even if it’s a server they were part of before age verification rolled out.
So as you long as you don’t have any age restriction on your server, everything should work normally. Don’t make channels of your age restricted and don’t “enable community” for your Discord server.
I really, really, REALLY hope that they will back out on this, kinda like when Onlyfans tried to forbid NSFW on their platform, but i don’t believe they will sadly. And not just because I and some others will lose access to certain servers, but because this is an upcoming cybersecurity nightmare in an era where dataleaks happen litterally every day.
At the time where AI-generated shit is everywhere on internet the last thing i want is my fucking ID card or pictures of my face in a database kindly labelled “Personally identifiable information - do not steal pls”
Discord has shown that they could not be trusted with this, as did multiple other centralized platforms of the same kind. Fuck them for enabling this surveillance shit without taking appropriate measures.
Sadly too late on both fronts. I guess I could just walk it back. Disable community and age restriction but even then this feels like it’s just a matter of time before they straightup axe it or worse.

What is an alternative? My entire server is age restricted. Every channel. Because THAT is the responsible approach. To ensure minors can’t access adult content and to not give fuckers more anti-trans BS….where I’m not erroneously and grossly thought of as being a predator, groomer, motherfucking ETC.!

I don’t know if you can disable the community, but you can definitely reverse age restriction. There is no need to enable age restriction for channels.
I understand that this might be right on paper, but there shouldn’t be any minors joining your server anyway. I can’t imagine we have any minors here on the forum, which also means the chance of having minors joining your Patreon and your Discord is very very low.
Like I get that….but living in the times we do….the insane anti trans politics here in this hell hole…I mean…all I need is some minor getting into my outlets and then, through no intent nor fault of my own, I get flagged or whatever and I become a target and example of how “far left trans ideologies are corrupting the youth”…yknow?

In case anybody else has it enabled:
Server-Settings → Community-Settings → disable Community
I’ll also lift the age restrictions on channels but as @EvelynEvil666 correctly stated, it’s ironic that doing the responsible “proper” thing seemingly ultimately just backfires.
Your server is not publicly available, right? And is accessible via direct invite, yes? If so, chances anything like this happening is very minimal. Of course, you can never say it’s zero.
Community isn’t setup nor enabled on my server…hell, I dint know anything about that shit….
I just want to be safe without any added stress…

The way I see it. discord is a dead platform, has been for a while and this is just the final nail in the coffin.
Since It’ll be paid, I would add features to it like allowing script creators to store media there.

Ok, good. This means you server is not publicly available. Nobody can find it and it’s only accessible via invite. That’s how it always should be. Never enable the “community” thing. You get some features you don’ even need and this makes your server publicly searchable. With this, you are very safe and the age verification won’t effect you. Consider removing age restriction from the channels as well and then everything is fine.
You can. Never think of problems, instead always think of solution.
Instead of “because of the age verification, I can’t distribute the content anymore.”
Think: “Ok, Discord may make it harder for me to distribute the content like I do. Let’s see what I can do to avoid this.”
And also, we are all here to help each other. If there is problem, we all can think of a solution together. There is always a solution to everything. We all built something, we built a community, we built a loyal fan base, we built content. Something minor like this won’t stop us to do what we and our community likes.
Any problems, any worries, make a post. Speak it out loud, let us be part of it and then we think of a solution.
